Job Description - Senior Project Accountant


BNP Associates, Inc., a global leader in air transportation consulting and engineering, has an immediate need for a Human Resources Manager in our Denver office. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to BNP’s continued growth and innovation while working with top professionals in the field.

Job Description

The Senior Project Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the financial success of company projects by providing advanced accounting expertise, accurate financial reporting, and proactive project controls. This position partners closely with project managers, operations leaders, and finance leadership to ensure projects are properly set up, monitored, and closed out in accordance with company policies and GAAP standards. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

 

Project Financial Management

  • Set up new projects in the accounting system (Deltek), including budgets, contract values, billing rules, and cost codes.
  • Monitor project budgets, commitments, and actual costs; analyze variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, revenue recognition calculations, and margin forecasts.
  • Perform project cash-flow analysis and support planning for funding needs.
  • Assist with international and domestic compliance monitoring including local tax preparation and filing. 

Billing & Revenue Recognition

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly billings, including progress billings, T&M invoices, and milestone-based billing.
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms and customer requirements.
  • Reconcile billed vs. earned revenue and ensure proper cutoffs.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare monthly project financial statements and performance dashboards In Deltek.
  • Review and validate project accruals, deferred revenue, and cost allocations.
  • Support quarter-end and year-end close activities, including audit support.

Controls & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to GAAP, company policies, and internal control standards.
  • Maintain audit-ready project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and cost support.
  • Assist with implementing process improvements and system enhancements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with project managers to support forecasting, risk management, and change order processing.
  • Provide training and guidance to project teams on financial procedures and best practices.
  • Collaborate with procurement, AP/AR, and payroll to ensure accurate cost flows. 

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of progressive experience in project accounting, construction accounting, engineering, or similar project-based industries.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and revenue recognition principles.
  • Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems – Deltek Highly Preferred (e.g., Deltek, Oracle, Viewpoint, SAP, NetSuite).
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, modeling).
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with percent-complete revenue recognition preferred.
  • Previous experience supporting multi-million-dollar or multi-year projects in the Architecture and Engineering space preferred.
  • Familiarity with job-costing and project management concepts preferred. 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time position ideally based in our Denver office and we are open to other office location based in the U.S. 
  • Standard 40-hour work week (7 am - 4 pm) with occasional additional time required to meet deadlines.

SALARY

  • $70,000 - $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications.
