Sidewalk Monitor - EASY APPLY!

In partnership with TBMP, the Juneau Economic Development Council (JEDC) is seeking attentive, friendly, and safety-conscious individuals to serve as a Sidewalk Monitor to sit/stand at the subport construction site in downtown Juneau.
Stationed on the waterfront side of Egan at the crosswalk to the Sheraton or the crosswalk to Pucker’s, the role requires reminding pedestrians to use the designated sidewalk detour for pedestrian safety.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Politely inform pedestrians to use the crosswalk at Egan and Willoughby. 

• Report any unsafe behaviors, near misses, or incidents to supervisors. 

• Regular attendance and physical presence are essential job functions. 
  

Required Qualifications: 

• Strong verbal communication and public interaction skills 

• Dependability and punctuality with a calm demeanor  

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Familiarity with downtown Juneau and basic pedestrian safety 

• Prior experience in customer service, events, or hospitality 

Minimum Physical Requirements: 

• Ability to see clearly at a distance of 100 feet, with or without corrective lenses 

• Peripheral vision sufficient to simultaneously monitor pedestrians and traffic 

• Ability to hear and respond to vehicle noise, verbal instructions, emergency sirens, and other auditory cues in a busy street environment 

• Ability to stand and remain alert for extended periods (up to 4 hours at a time) 

• Tolerance for working in adverse weather conditions and vehicular noise 

• Due to the emphasis on public safety, impairment due to fatigue, medication, or medical conditions may disqualify or restrict duty assignment. 

• Must be at least 18 years of age or older. 

Scheduling

• Monitor stations will be staffed 7 days a week from 10am-6pm through September 2025.


• Schedules will be released weekly with shifts varying in length from 1 to 8 hours long based on employee choice.
