Role Overview

We’re seeking a Spanish-speaking Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) student to join us for a clinical rotation. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while making a meaningful impact on the lives of Spanish-speaking and Latinx communities.

Schedule:

• Location: West Hempstead Medical, 354 Hempstead Ave, Ste 101, West Hempstead, NY 11552

• Shift: One day per week, 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner during the clinical rotation.

• Provide compassionate, culturally sensitive translation between the Psychiatric NP and Spanish-speaking patients receiving psychiatric care.

• Develop expertise in population health and leadership competencies.

• Actively address health equity gaps for Spanish-speaking and Latinx populations.

• Support the integration of psychiatry within a primary care setting, addressing the diverse psychiatric needs of patients.

Mandatory Requirements

• Language Proficiency: Native or fluent in both Spanish and English, with the ability to translate and interpret medical terminology accurately in both written and verbal communication.

• Experience: At least 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Psychiatry.

• Education: Currently enrolled in a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) degree program (MSN or DNP).

• Commute: Ability to reliably travel to the West Hempstead location for the weekly shift.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience working with Spanish-speaking and Latinx populations, demonstrating cultural competence and sensitivity to their unique healthcare experiences.
