Job Description - Stage Manager- Summer Musical

SITAR ARTS CENTER: CAMP SITAR  
STAGE MANAGER, SUMMER MUSICAL



What We Do   


Sitar Arts Center engages DC youth, from early childhood to young adulthood, in building a creative community of learning and belonging that removes financial and cultural barriers to arts education and career training. 



What You’ll Do     


Sitar Arts Center is seeking a wonderful, experienced Stage Manager to work with a range of young people to support Sitar’s summer musical this June – August 2026.   


  


Sitar produces a musical each summer that serves students in 4th-12th grade. This summer’s production is The Lightning Thief: Theatre for Young Audiences Edition.   



The Stage Manager will oversee the planning and execution of our summer musical, record stage details decided during rehearsals and production meetings, serve as a liaison between crew and cast members and anticipate production needs.  The Stage Manager will also work closely with youth interns providing support to all aspects of the performance and guidance in the moment as needed. The Stage Manager ensures a happy, engaging, respectful and successful musical theater experience for our students and interns!    



Responsibilities Include     



  • Support the director in overseeing all planning and execution of our summer musical (including creating and maintaining rehearsal schedule)

  • Prepare rehearsal materials daily (scripts, prop lists, music scores)

  • Record details during rehearsals (blocking, props tracking, design notes, rehearsal reports, etc.) 

  • Coordinate with the producer, designers, and artistic staff to ensure all elements are ready for rehearsals

  • Develop all documents to support tech/dress rehearsals and production (prompt script for props/lighting/sound/set cues, tech plan to support staff crew support etc.) 



  • Run all performances, either from backstage or in the booth



  • Organize and oversee strike for the production. 




What You’ll Earn   


For the musical, you will receive a stipend of $3,500. 



When You'll Work   


This six-week seasonal position starts June 22, 2026, with a daily schedule of 12:30 pm – 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Performances will be held on July 30, 31, and August 1 at 7:00 pm, and on August 2 at 2:00 pm. 



Other Required Work Dates will be provided before employment acceptance. All required work dates are paid including:   



  • Summer Staff Training 



  • Orientation  



  • Load In Weekend 



  • Performance days 



  • Strike

Key Qualifications and Experience     



  • Relevant training, experience and/or certifications as a Stage Manager 



  • Excellent organizational and communication skills



  • Ability to multi-task effectively and prioritize tasks



  • Strong attention to detail



  • Patience and enthusiasm for working with young people


 


Preferred Qualifications and Experience  



  • A passion for musical theatre



  • Experience working with youth theatre programs

  • Understanding of sound and lighting systems
