Substitute Teacher

TITLE: Substitute Teacher (Preschool-4th Grade)

DEPARTMENT: Lower School

JOB TYPE: No Contract, Sporadic

REPORTS TO:  Lower School Principal

Position Objective: The major responsibility of the Substitute Teacher is to support the learning of our lower school students in a variety of classroom environments.

Qualifying Characteristics:  The employee is a Christian with an authentic and mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ in both their professional and personal life with a calling and commitment to Christian education.  Must be able to work independently, multi-task, deal with frequent interruptions, and nurture and maintain a positive relationship with parents, students and colleagues.  A high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality must be maintained when dealing with student and staff information.  The ability to prioritize workload and meet specified deadlines is critical.  Attention to detail and a preference for working in a time and task intensive environment are essential. Please review our Statement of Faith Agreement.

Educational and Experience Requirements:  A Bachelor's Degree is preferred for this position.  Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years successful classroom management is preferred.  Additionally, proficiency in electronic office products (i.e. Microsoft, Google, etc.) is required along with telephone proficiency, working knowledge of general office equipment, and extensive written/verbal communication.

Major Responsibilities

• Carry out lesson plan instructions from the classroom teacher and supplement class activities if lessons end early


• Take attendance according to school procedures


• Helps students to understand and follow the school/classroom rules and procedures


• Supervises students during lunch, recess, bathroom breaks, hallways, field trips, and carline as assigned


• Supports students by providing proper example, emotional support, and general guidance

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Indoors 90% of the time; must be able to remain stationary for long periods of time while working with a PC, and must be able to move supplies, copier paper, up to 35 pounds.  Must be able to assist children for health and safety reasons. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to the elements when crossing campus.  Change in temperature/humidity; potential for excessive noise, using computer/monitor screen; Average classroom with exterior windows.
