Job Description - Summer Camp Seasonal Aquatics Manager

Description

  

The Aquatics Manager supervises the Aquatics Specialists and operates both the swimming pool and waterfront, including fishing and boating. The Aquatics Manager also supervises hourly lifeguards, ensures all certifications and paperwork are current, and keeps safety their number one priority. They will lead lifeguard in-service trainings, conduct two evaluations, and provide consistent feedback and support to each staff member on their team.

Team Overview:

The Program Team brings the camp experience to life by creating programs, building community and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all camp participants. The team creates accessible and developmentally-appropriate programs and recruits, processes, and supports a large team of volunteers and seasonal staff. In adherence with laws and camp governing bodies; they develop, plan and implement camp emergency procedures and policies.

Responsibilities:  

  • Attend Seasonal Staff Training (May 27, 2025 - June 4, 2025)
  • Attend High Risk Certification & Leadership Training (May 19-22, 2025)
  • Recruit, screen, select, train/certify, and manage hourly certified aquatics team
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to manage aquatics team schedules
  • Assist with tasks related to opening/closing the pool, boat house, and fishing dock for the season
  • Design and implement outcomes-driven programming for the pool, waterfront (boating, fishing, aquatics), and other program areas as needed
  • Modify and adapt all aquatics activities due to inclement weather, medical needs, psychosocial needs, and other variables
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator in the preparation, purchase order, and record-keeping of inventory of supplies in assigned areas
  • Submit weekly swim and waterfront plans to supervisor
  • Oversee and perform daily pool cleaning, record chemical levels, and be prepared for various other emergency protocols
  • Assist the Cabin Life team with maintaining appropriate supervision of campers, including providing overnight coverage in cabins as needed

Requirements

  

Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience 

  • Ability to move across camp grounds and between buildings and activity areas multiple times each day
  • Ability to perform job functions outside during summer months (humidity, heat, rain)
  • Hold or obtain valid Lifeguard & CPR for Professional Rescuer Certifications
  • Strong understanding of waterfront risk management and emergency planning while keeping safety first in all situations
  • Demonstrated professionalism and strong leadership skills
  • Ability to manage a detailed schedule for a large team
  • Experience training, certifying or leading adults
  • Ability to support with program set up and tear down (including movement of materials up to 50 lbs.)
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict resolution skills with children and adults

Preferred Skills, Qualifications & Experience 

  • Minimum of 1 year of previous experience in aquatic management or supervisory role
  • Experience as a lifeguard or prior lifeguard certification preferred
  • Boating, canoeing, or fishing experience preferred
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred
