Job Description - Temporary Technical Designer, Men's

Tommy John is a dual gender lifestyle brand focused on Men’s & Women’s underwear, intimates, sleep, and lounge. We are DTC-driven through our owned and operated brand e-Commerce business. We are undergoing transformation to multi-channel distribution, including Wholesale expansion while remaining on a mission to add smart, innovative, and fun-loving team members to the organization. We are looking for a Temporary Technical Designer, Men's to come join our New York based headquarters. Our HQ Office is in Lower Manhattan and our teams are on-site 3 days per week.

This is a temporary status position covering for an employee on maternity leave through early November 2025.

Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Technical Designer, Women's, the Temp Technical Designer, Men's is responsible for supporting the design process for our Men’s categories (underwear, sleepwear, and loungewear). This individual will also work closely with the Design team to coordinate sampling timelines and new product launch calendars. This individual must be highly detailed and a self-starter, with solid technical skills as well as product experience in the apparel and intimates space.

Primary Responsibilities

Work with the Technical Design & greater Supply team to establish company fit, size ranges, grading, and construction standards for men’s product categories
Execute design vision while achieving impeccable fit and construction standards
Co-lead fittings, taking detailed and accurate notes
Create and maintain detailed tech packs including detail sketches with construction/stitching, fit evaluation comments and specs, tolerances, and grading
Measure and evaluate garments from proto sample through post-production
Revise and create patterns, review, and advise on adjustments
Maintain thorough vendor communication and tracking to meet deadlines and ensure on-time delivery
Manage time and workflow
Partner with Technical Design team, as well as cross-functional teams and vendors

Qualifications, Skills, & Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Pattern-making or Technical Design
5+ years Technical Design Experience in Men’s underwear and/or apparel
Must have technical understanding of body, fit, flat specs, fabric/trim stretch, and the ability to lead fittings
Knowledge of pattern-making, construction, industry fit knowledge, sizing, and grading
Must be thorough and detail-oriented with ability to manage and delegate tasks to meet deadline demands
Works well in a team environment
Ability to be on-site in our HQ Office in Lower Manhattan 3 days per week

Hourly Rate Range: $40-$45/hr
