The UI/UX Designer will play a critical role in improving the accessibility, usability, and responsiveness of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) eligibility systems. This position is responsible for translating complex business logic into intuitive, user-centered designs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of accessibility standards, cross-functional collaboration, and emerging technologies including AI/ML. The designer will work closely with stakeholders, researchers, developers, and third-party partners like Code for America to enhance the digital experience for users of government services.

Responsibilities:
• Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to identify areas of improvement and optimization.
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams to translate business objectives into user-friendly designs.
• Design wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.
• Apply UX design principles such as hierarchy, contrast, and alignment to create responsive and accessible web/mobile interfaces.
• Participate in workshops, sprint planning, and design feedback sessions to align efforts with stakeholder goals.
• Ensure design alignment with accessibility standards, including WCAG compliance.
• Visualize complex data and system workflows through clear and concise design.
• Work closely with developers to ensure seamless implementation of UI/UX designs.
• Apply industry best practices in collaboration with Code for America and internal HHSC teams.
• Design interfaces for AI/ML-integrated systems, with a focus on human-AI interaction and explainable AI.
• Create and maintain design documentation and visual standards for ongoing projects.
• Participate in usability testing, analytics review, and iterative refinement based on user feedback.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
• 4+ years of experience designing user interfaces for enterprise systems using Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch.
• 4+ years of experience creating responsive and accessible interfaces aligned with UX best practices.
• 4+ years of experience translating business needs into visual design solutions, incorporating accessibility and branding standards.
• 4+ years of experience developing wireframes and prototypes to support agile development cycles.

• 5+ years of experience designing graphical diagrams, timelines, and system architecture visuals.
• 3+ years of experience facilitating design workshops and gathering stakeholder feedback.
• 3+ years of multitasking across concurrent design projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience designing eligibility determination systems or rule-based, data-intensive applications.
• Strong familiarity with Hotjar, usability testing frameworks, and SEO principles.

Work Location and Schedule:
• Primary Location: 4601 W Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78751
• Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Central Time, excluding Texas state holidays
• Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days on-site: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday; 2 days remote)
• Overtime: May require evenings/weekends; hours over 40 must be pre-approved by HHSC.
