Job Description - Utilization Manager (UM)


Eduvention Mentoring & Consulting (EMC) is a behavioral health practice dedicated to empowering individuals facing mental and behavioral health challenges through compassionate mentoring and consulting services. EMC adopts a strengths-based model, empowering families to build resilience and develop the tools they need to thrive. We are currently looking for Utilization Manager (UM) who will utilize their skills to ensure clients receive appropriate and timely access to necessary services and resources while optimizing the utilization of those resources.

Your Role:

  • Care Coordination and Resource Management:
    • Arrange and coordinate medical appointments, therapy sessions, support groups, and other resources to aid the client's recovery.
    • Monitor the client’s behavior, daily schedule, medication adherence, and participation in activities.
    • Coordinate client logistics, including transportation to medical appointments and therapy sessions, as needed.
    • Liaise regularly with family members and medical professionals to ensure coordinated care and communication.
    • Supply necessary documents for foster care agencies and other government organizations upon request.
  • Clinical Assessment and Planning:
    • Complete initial assessments for new clients entering the clinic.
    • Conduct ongoing assessments and provide feedback to the client, medical professionals, and the family regarding progress and needs.
    • Develop individualized recovery plans, coping methods, and rehabilitation strategies in collaboration with the client.
    • Meet with clients regularly to offer one-on-one support and counseling.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Document comprehensive and timely clinical notes for each client in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
    • Report any unusual behavior, conflicts, or recovery deviations to the relevant professionals in a timely manner.
    • Participate in monthly Utilization Management (UM) meetings with QMHP colleagues to review client progress and document outcomes in the EHR system (reassessments).
    • Input client information accurately into the E-CANS (or relevant state-specific assessment system).
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, families, and external providers.
    • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among all members of the client's support team.
  • Crisis Intervention and Support:
    • Respond to call-outs and client emergencies as needed, following established protocols.
  • Compliance and Professional Standards:
    • Adhere to all agency policies, procedures, and relevant state and federal regulations.
    • Maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with HIPAA and other applicable laws.
    • Fulfill any other tasks that are associated with being a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and Utilization Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work or other related discipline (Master’s degree preferred) and current or willing to obtain a CANS ANSA certification. 
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in behavior support or related clinical setting
  • Passion: A strong commitment to working with children with severe emotional disturbances and their families.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organization: Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Empathy: A genuine capacity for empathy and understanding.

Compensation: $28 per billable hour. This position is an independent contractor (1099).
