Job Description - Waterfront Marine Engineer/Project Manager

Marine Solutions is currently looking for a Waterfront Marine Engineer / Project Manager to join our team in our Newark, New Jersey office. Marine Solutions is a specialized marine engineering and construction firm serving clients in the government (federal, state, local), transportation, energy, industrial, water, and commercial markets. SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Project Manager position has authority, responsibility, and accountability for ensuring assigned projects are executed professionally and in a timely and safe manner. To fulfill these obligations, a Project Manager must satisfy contractual requirements, internal procedures and standards, and establish financial performance metrics.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Responsible for projects of varying size and complexity from inception to completion.

  • Takes an active role in contract negotiations, project planning, project quality, and project profitability.

  • Responsible for project budgets, schedules, and timely completion of projects.

  • Ensures accurate client billings and monitors outstanding accounts receivable.

  • Directs and/or performs field inspection and evaluation of structures in compliance with established procedures and standards.

  • Directs and/or performs testing of materials, interprets test results, and incorporates results into reports to ensure project specification compliance.

  • Directs and/or performs complex engineering computations involving conventional engineering practices.

  • Directs and/or performs the preparation of comprehensive engineering documents including inspection reports, design plans, and specifications.

  • Directs and supervises the work of engineers, technicians, drafters, and administrative staff.

  • Leads internal and external project meetings and works to actively resolve project issues.

  • Provides leadership in client management, proposal preparation, project scoping, and estimating project costs.

  • Actively maintains meaningful relationships with clients.

  • Actively promotes a safe work culture while upholding and enforcing safety standards.

YOU WILL NEED


  • Leadership and organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in the English language.

  • Be a self-starter and complete tasks that are assigned.

  • Strong technical knowledge, experience, and capabilities in area of practice.

  • High-level ability to define problems, collect/interpret data, evaluate facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Strong proficiency in computer-assisted engineering and office software and equipment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor's degree and/or master’s degree in civil, structural or ocean engineering from an accredited 4-year university.  

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Professional Engineer (PE)

  • Valid US Driver’s License

  • Project Management Experience 

  • ADCI Commercial Diver

  • FHWA-NHI #130055- Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges

  • FHWA-NHI #130053- Bridge Inspection Refresher

  • FHWA-NHI #130078 –Bridge Inspection Techniques for Nonredundant Steel Tension Members (NSTM) Refresher 

  • FHWA-NHI #130087-Ancillary Highway Structures 

  • FHWA-NHI #130091- Underwater Bridge Inspection 

  • Structural Engineer (SE) 

  • SPRAT Rope Access Technician 

  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction Safety Course

  • NASBLA Boater Safety Course

  • First Aid, CPR, O2 Provider

  • TWIC Card

  • Valid US Passport

  • Commercial DOT Medical Card


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORK ENVIRONMENT & SAFETY

The duties of this position require the employee to regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. This position may require the employee to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While in the field, the employee may be required to walk in rugged conditions, work in adverse weather conditions, and stand up to eight hours or more at a time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the required duties of this position.

This position requires maintaining current industry knowledge and expertise through active involvement in professional organizations and/or other activities that may require additional and/or flexible working hours. The ability and availability to readily work overtime and perform duties outside of normal working hours may be required to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. Travel inside and outside of the continental U.S. may be required.

COMPENSATION

The annual pay range for positions in New Jersey is $131,500 to $147,500, depending on education and relevant experience.
