The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records for the company. This position handles daily accounting transactions, accounts payable and receivable, bank and credit-card reconciliations, payroll-related entries, invoicing, financial reporting, and general ledger maintenance. The Bookkeeper works closely with management, accountants, vendors, customers, and other departments to ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and properly documented.
Key Responsibilities
Record and categorize daily financial transactions.
Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
Prepare and process customer invoices.
Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances.
Process vendor bills and accounts payable.
Reconcile bank, credit-card, and other financial accounts.
Review transactions for accuracy and proper classification.
Enter and maintain payroll-related transactions and journal entries.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial information.
Assist with income statements, balance sheets, cash-flow reports, and other financial reports.
Maintain accurate records of expenses, income, assets, liabilities, and other financial activity.
Research and correct discrepancies in financial records.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
Maintain organized electronic and paper financial documentation.
Work with CPAs and external accountants during tax preparation and audits.
Ensure financial records are maintained according to company policies and applicable accounting practices.
Track customer payments and vendor balances.
Assist management with budgeting, cash-flow monitoring, and financial analysis when needed.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and employee information.
Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent accounting coursework or an accounting degree is a plus.
Previous bookkeeping or accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles.
Experience with QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to reconcile accounts and identify discrepancies.
Good organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
High level of integrity and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
1–3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
QuickBooks certification.
Experience with payroll processing.
Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Experience working with CPA firms or small businesses.
Knowledge of accounting software such as Xero, Sage, NetSuite, or similar systems.
Associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
