Job Description - Computer Network Specialist I

Computer Network Specialist I Location Allegany County, MD : Computer Network Specialist I Open Recruitment The Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) is seeking a dynamic, progressive candidate with a focus on delivering customer service for the position of Computer Network Specialist I. This position will provide all technical support to the Cumberland, Hagerstown, Oakland Branch Offices and Emission stations, nearby county offices, and external training providers. The Computer Network Specialist I will complete the background check for the TAC-ACS account. Troubleshoot network ports for issues relating to connection to the network, troubleshoot issues relating to anti-virus and resolve issues with missing Microsoft security patches. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software issues, network connectivity issues, imagining, installing new hardware, and connecting equipment to network switches, patch panels, performing preventive maintenance on all equipment and maintaining accurate computer inventory documentation for the branch among other task.
  • Resolving Service Level Agreements (SLA) technical issues is 4 hours
  • Configuring and clearing CISCO switch networking ports for operation.
  • Providing backup to other MVA sites when needed
  • Conducting inventory on all computer assets at their assigned locations annually and track any changes or movement of equipment daily
  • Completing quarterly inventories on all credit card devices at each MVA location to ensure compliance during the annual PCI assessment required by the Payment Card Industry
  • Performing regular preventive maintenance on each piece of equipment to minimize failures and keep the branch operational
  • Resetting user's Active Directory passwords, unlocking users Active Directory accounts, deleting computers, laptops, and tablets from Active Directory and move computers, laptops, and tablets to the correct Organizational Units in Active Directory
  • Updating and editing user profiles to the permissions to provide group and share drive access
  • Working with facilities and branch management to plan, schedule, and setup new equipment on the local area network while maintaining an accurate list of new and replacement hardware being removed and installed
  • Installing and maintaining application software on laptops and desktop computers. Monitoring, planning, and installing security updates for application software.
  • Identifying and correcting issues with systems not getting updates. Information is monitored by legislative auditors and other assessor so it's extremely important to keep this update to date
The current vacancy exists in the Office of Technical Systems Services in Glen Burnie, MD (Anne Arundel County). Minimum Qualifications

Education : Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or other information technology-related field to include course work in local or wide area microcomputer or minicomputer networks. Experience : None Notes: 1. Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or other information technology-related field to include coursework in local or wide area microcomputer or minicomputer networks may be substituted for the required education. 2. One year of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area microcomputer or minicomputer networks may be substituted for the required education. 3. Experience operating multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining microcomputer hardware and software; or converting data from project specifications by preparing program code using third generation or other generally accepted computer programming languages may be substituted for high school on a year-for-year basis. 4. Completion of a certification program in Network Engineering or Internetwork Routing, such as Certified Novell Engineer, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert or equivalent certification program may be substituted for the required education.

Licenses & Certifications

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
