Job Description - Financial and Credit Counseling Specialist

Financial and Credit Counseling Specialist Location Kalamazoo, MI (Central Business District area) : Description:

Create debt management plans, spending plans or budgets to assist members or clients to meet financial goals. Provide confidential and professional support to Aspire Financial Counseling members and department. Enhance the member's experience by exceeding the member's expectations and bring value to each member interaction.

  • Responsible for demonstrating excellence in member service which requires member focused problem-solving skills and the ability to formulate creative solutions.
  • Assess KALSEE members' or clients' overall financial situation by reviewing income, assets, debts, expenses, credit reports and other pertinent financial information.
  • Create debt management plans, spending plans or budgets to assist members or clients to meet financial goals. This is to include estimated time to repay debt, interest rates and available funds. Review changes to family, finances, employment situations, etc. with member or client to ensure plan is acceptable moving forward.
  • Negotiate with creditors on behalf of KALSEE members or clients to arrange for payment adjustments, interest rate reduction, time extension or to establish payment plans.
  • Educate members on KALSEE products and services to create efficiencies and autonomy.
  • Maintain and update records. This includes but not limited to account activities, financial transactions, counseling session notes, document images or any other pertinent information needed for future reference.
  • Investigate missing deposits, payment histories, held funds, returned funds, or related issues to resolve member, client or creditor issues.
  • Disburse funds accurately and timely to creditors utilizing ACH or BillPay when applicable.
  • Review all activities for compliance with established policies, procedures and regulations. Regulations include but are not limited to: Bank Secrecy Act / Anti-Money Laundering / Office of Foreign Assets Control regulations.
  • Participate in annual training as required by the BSA/OFAC Compliance Officer.
  • Travel to KALSEE Locations as needed for meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Excellent member service skills
  • Minimum 2 years of credit union or banking experience in a branch environment preferred
  • Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) preferred
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficient using Microsoft office products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
