The Pre-Op/PACU RN is responsible for the safety and care of the patients while in the pre-operative and post-operative areas. This position is responsible and accountable for the delivery of individualized nursing care to patients both prior to administration and immediately following the emergence from anesthesia for surgical intervention. Incorporating current clinical knowledge with established nursing practice, he/she performs nursing interventions utilizing the nursing process. By assessment of the individual patient and the scheduled surgical procedure, he/she anticipates the needs of the patient and provides for those needs while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
The PRE-OP/PACU RN must have a basic understanding of preoperative/postoperative equipment and policies related to: patient care monitor, patient jurney, glucometer, pregnancy testing devices, medical gases, AED, and defibrillator. Responsibilities include:
