PAY RANGE: PAYROLL SPECIALIST I - $28.25 - $37.63/hour
PAYROLL SPECIALIST II - $65,853 - $87,693/annually
Responsible to the Finance Manager, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurately processing payroll for all employees and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in payroll processing software.
This position works from the Sedalia branch of CORE Electric Cooperative. This position does not work remotely.
CORE employees are required to work in a safe manner in accordance with regulatory standards and requirements.
Minimum Qualifications of Position:
Payroll Specialist I : Associate's degree in a business-related field. 2-4 years of related experience. Strong understanding of payroll processes, tax regulations, and compliance requirements. Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with discretion. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Or Payroll Specialist II (In addition to the minimum qualifications for the Payroll Specialist I position : 5-7 years of related experience. Bachelor's degree in a business-related field preferred.
Preferred Certification for each Position: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Payroll Processing: Collect and verify timekeeping information for all employees. Review and verify payroll data before processing to ensure accuracy. Process employee wages, including special payments, such as bonuses, commissions, and benefits. Address any discrepancies in payroll and resolve issues promptly. Process/pay Union Dues, Wage Garnishments, Benefits i.e., HSA, FSA, 401-k.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. Stay up to date with changes in payroll tax laws and regulations. Prepare and file payroll tax returns accurately and on time, i.e., 940, 941, DR-1093, DR-1094, UITR, BLS 3020, CO FAMLI. Respond to inquiries from tax authorities and auditors regarding payroll matters.
Recordkeeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of employee wages, deductions, and hours worked. Generate payroll reports for management and other stakeholders. Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies as needed. Calculates Hours and Labor Analysis including Labor distributions. Prepare year-end payroll reports, including W-2 forms for employees and retirees.
Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to employees regarding payroll-related inquiries. Assist employees and other departments with payroll-related issues.
