Job Description - Senior Accountant

Position Summary: The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and performing a wide range of accounting activities to support the finance department. This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to lead and mentor junior staff members. The ideal candidate will have experience with financial reporting, analysis, and compliance, and will play a key role in driving the company's financial success.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
    • Analyze financial data and provide insights to management.
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial reports.
  2. General Ledger Management:
    • Oversee the maintenance and reconciliation of the general ledger accounts.
    • Review and approve journal entries for accuracy and completeness.
    • Lead month-end and year-end closing activities.
  3. Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
    • Prepare budget variance analyses and provide explanations for variances.
    • Monitor budget performance and provide recommendations for improvement.
  4. Accounts Payable and Receivable:
    • Oversee the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
    • Ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and customer payments.
    • Review aging reports and follow up on overdue payments.
  5. Financial Analysis:
    • Conduct financial analysis and performance evaluations.
    • Identify trends and areas for improvement.
    • Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analyses as needed.
  6. Audit and Compliance:
    • Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
    • Implement and maintain effective internal controls.
  7. Team Leadership and Mentorship:
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.
    • Lead by example and promote a positive and collaborative work environment.
    • Foster professional development and growth within the finance team.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
