Trademark Paralegal

LHH is recruiting a Trademark Paralegal for a Chicago law firm. The Trademark Paralegal will provide support for U.S. and foreign trademark activities, while working as part of a team of attorneys and support staff to offer a high level of service to both domestic and international clients.  RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage process and workflow of US and foreign trademark filings, prosecution, renewals and conflicts (oppositions, cancellations, infringements, UDRPs and counterfeits)
• Act as the first line of communication for trademark prosecution, escalating matters to the managing attorney as well as relaying his/her instructions to outside counsel
• Coordinate the annual renewal activity for trademark registrations worldwide
• Managing trademark disputes through coordination with managing attorney, outside counsel and client
• Docket management for critical deadline as well as for status updates
• Screen, search and clear proposed trademarks.
• Conduct foreign and domestic trademark clearance searches to determine availability of trademarks, including on-line searching and working with foreign agents
• Create summary reports and draft clearance opinions on a global basis
• Assist in trademark budget planning and cost management

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor u2019s degree and/or Paralegal certificate from an ABA qualified program is preferred.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Trademark Paralegal and/or law firm experience is preferred.
• Proficient with electronic research tools such as USPTO and WIPO databases; and USPTO trademark filing systems.
• Broad knowledge of U.S. and foreign trademark rules and procedures.
• Efficient and effective in legal research and possesses a high degree of competency in on-line research tools.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy, superior attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Ability to facilitate clear and concise communication with others in a positive manner
• Ability to work with others effectively in a team that encourages diversity of thought and innovation
• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, exhibit sound judgment, maintain confidentiality and use discretion
• Ability to exhibit problem-solving skills and demonstrate initiative and accountability
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic fast paced environment with fluidity amidst multiple projects, shifting priorities and competing deadlines
• Ability to adapt and accept changes in job responsibilities based on the strategic goals of the firm
• Flexibility to adjust hours as necessary in order to satisfy the essential functions of the position
