Accounting Assistant - Construction Location Annapolis Junction, MD :
The Construction Accounting Assistant position at Wilhelm Commercial Builders, Inc, dba Wilhelm Builders (WB), is an integral part of the Accounting Operations team in support of construction projects located throughout Maryland, Washington D.C., Northern Virginia and various locations around the country. The Construction Accounting Assistant is essential in ensuring accurate financial records and efficient operations within our construction projects with the main goal of delivering an exceptional client experience and producing top notch communication, effective processing and quality workmanship throughout all phases of the construction process.
Roles and ResponsibilitiesConstruction Accounting Tasks
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process invoices, verify discrepancies, reconcile accounts, and ensure timely payments to vendors and subcontractors. Prepare invoices for clients and monitor accounts receivable to ensure timely collections.
- Oversee Payroll Process on a weekly basis for approximately 35+ employees including Wage Scale/Certified Payroll Reporting.
- Assist CFO with special projects and reports as requested.
- Prepare ad hoc reports as needed.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records, including invoices, receipts, contracts, and payroll documents. Ensure compliance with record retention policies and assist with audits as needed.
- Collaborate with project managers, vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to obtain necessary financial information and resolve any billing or payment issues.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external parties to ensure smooth operations.

QualificationsEducation and/or Experience
- Minimum 5 years of verifiable experience in construction accounting, specifically knowledge of AIA progress billings.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or comparable work experience will be accepted.
- Knowledge of payroll processing and certified payroll for government reporting.
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and utilization accounting software and/or other relevant tools to perform accounting tasks efficiently. Knowledge of StarBuilder accounting software is helpful.
- Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail and strong time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of construction accounting principles and practices is a plus.
