About the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI):

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) is the State planning agency for criminal justice, juvenile justice, traffic safety, and victim services. ICJI is designated as the State Administering Agency for the distribution of federal funds and the State Statistical Analysis Center for research.

Further, ICJI coordinates and collaborates with local, state, and federal entities to identify, assess, plan, resource, and evaluate new and emerging issues facing the criminal justice and public safety spectrum. ICJI works with local, state, and federal entities to evaluate programs associated with the prevention, detection & solution of crimes; law enforcement, and criminal/juvenile justice, to improve and coordinate all aspects of law enforcement and criminal/juvenile justice.

 

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

About the Job:

You will handle all aspects of the Accounts Receivable Accountant role, such as depositing checks, matching federal funds transfers with appropriate billing, reviewing travel reimbursement forms, fixed assets inventory, as well as some administrative duties as assigned.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

• Advise the supervisor of the status of all accounts. 
• Assist management in the preparation of agency or program area budget requests. 
• Develop and recommend the implementation of new accounting methods and procedures for this position’s area of responsibility. 
• Advise program staff on accounting matters relating to specific program funding. 
• Assist in the development and maintenance of general policies for a fiscal program. 
• Coordinate the use of the computerized accounting system within the assigned area. 
• Certify the accuracy of financial records and accounts. 
• Analyze and interpret financial statements and reports for accuracy. 
• Control the flow of appropriated funds. 
• Reconcile complex discrepancies between accounts and notifies the appropriate department or supervisor of errors. 
• Interact with, and respond to, state and federal audit representatives. 
• Make necessary adjustments to close books.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

• Thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of public accounting. 
• Thorough knowledge of federal and state accounting laws, policies, and procedures. 
• Thorough knowledge of agency organization and function. 
• Thorough knowledge of automated accounting systems. 
• Ability to solve relatively complex accounting and budgeting problems. 
• Ability to develop accounting methods and procedures to meet agency needs. 
• Ability to assist in budget preparation. 
• Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements and reports. 
• Ability to reconcile discrepancies in accounts. 
• Ability to develop effective work relationships. 
• Effective communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
