Job Description - Administrative Services Assistant

Administrative Services Assistant (OA) Recent Graduate Location Brooklyn, NY : Summary The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York's mission is to investigate, prosecute and deter violations of federal statutes, enforce and represent the interests of the United States in civil litigation, uphold civil, constitutional and victims' rights, and foster partnerships with other federal, state and local government agencies and community groups. This job is open to Recent graduates Individuals who have graduated from an accredited educational institute or certificate program within the last 2 years or 6 years for Veterans. Clarification from the agency CTAP, ICTAP, all U.S. Citizens and Nationals Duties This Administrative Services Assistant (OA) Recent Graduate provides routine technical and administrative support in one or more administrative program areas. The incumbent assists the Administrative Officer and higher-graded specialists in delivering administrative services to the USAO staff. The work performed may involve providing direct assistance to specialists or analysts by performing a routine segment of their work or it may involve responsibility for a stream of products or continuing processes based on direct application of established policies, practices, and criteria. This is a developmental position targeted to a full performance level of GS-07. The incumbent of this position will be provided with close supervision and guidance while developing toward the full performance level. This level of supervision and guidance will lessen as the incumbent progresses. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Administrative Services Assistant (OA) Recent Graduate support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York, located in Brooklyn, New York, focusing in the areas of Administration and Human Resources. Typical work assignments will include: Amending or making minor changes to position descriptions. Receiving incoming requests for new classification actions and performs initial evaluation (i.e., interviews supervisors to ascertain nature of request, reason for change, and series, grade and/or title desired). Participating with supervisor or budget analyst in the preparation of budget estimates using historical data, reports and information from operating officials. Monitoring the status of purchase orders. Reviewing invoices against contract schedules and verifies prices. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a United States Citizen or National to apply for this position. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying: To qualify at the GS-06 level, you must possess: Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) at least 2 of the 3 the duties listed below: 1. Performing routine assignments and answer inquiries related to one or more of the following administrative services programs: human resources, financial management, or procurement; 2. maintaining human resources forms and/or related documentation; 3. using various software programs to create, copy, edit and print a variety of documents. Typing Proficiency: To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
