• W2 Contract, 6 Months (Extension Highly Likely)
• This position is 100% onsite in Warrenville, IL. Candidates can start work as early as 6:30am or as late as 8:00am and are expected to work eight-hours per day Monday Friday.

Overview

• Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Firewall Administrator to support nuclear plant data networks across 12 nuclear sites. This is a Refresh Project involving an almost 1-for-1 replacement of old equipment with new, ensuring minimal disruption to the existing production systems. The role will involve both design and hands-on installation work, with a strong emphasis on firewall configuration and security hardening (for which specifications have already been defined). The initial phase of the project involves six months of configuration and installation in a lab build environment. Once complete, the design will be replicated in the 12 nuclear sites in the Midwest, Northeast, and Mid-Atlantic. If interested, the Senior Firewall Administrator will have the opportunity to travel to nuclear sites to help support the installations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in firewall configuration and installation, as well as a broad IT generalist (routing/switching, servers, etc.) background. This role is pivotal in the overall project to replace monitoring systems behind a data diode, ensuring air-gapped security for critical infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include:

• Design, configure, and install firewalls, routers, and switches in isolated nuclear site environments.
• Work on the redesign and configuration of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems.
• Collaborate with IT Engineers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on design and installation tasks.
• Build and maintain lab environments for design phase replication to other nuclear sites.
• Document all design and installation processes meticulously.
• Building ACLs and ensuring compliance with security hardening requirements for all network equipment.
• Provide hands-on support for server-related tasks (RedHat or Windows this has yet to be decided).
• Manage and configure Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) and Threat Defense Virtual (FTDv) systems.
• Utilize tap aggregators to manage network traffic effectively.
• Meet committed deadlines with strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in configuring and installing Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD), 9300 Series, Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA), or Palo Alto firewall solutions.
• Hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches, particularly 9300s.
• Hands-on experience with RedHat or Windows 2019+ servers.
• Strong documentation skills and ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to meet strict deadlines.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Bachelor s degree in the IT-field.
• Relevant Cisco certification(s).
• Familiarity with tap aggregators and their application in network traffic management.
• Familiarity with Splunk.
• Experience in the nuclear industry.
