Job Description - Assistant Director

The Assistant Director position at the USU Inclusion Center plays a pivotal role in supporting the Center's mission of fostering a welcoming and supportive environment within the university community. Working closely with the Director, the Assistant Director contributes to strategic planning, manages daily operations, supervises staff, ensures compliance with inclusivity standards and policies, and represents the Center in various forums.

  • Oversees departmental day to day operations including but not limited to programming, event management, marketing, internal and external communications, and other administrative functions.
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, onboarding and supervising student staff and interns.
  • Responsible for recruiting and training peer mentors for the department's mentoring programs in collaboration with other division leadership.
  • Monitors center revenues and expenses and keeps appropriate records in liaison with Business Services and center's senior leadership, and generates related reports.
  • In alignment with the divisional inclusion framework, identifies student learning outcomes, and monitors center resource utilization; engagement and involvement.
  • Collaborates with other stakeholders in the division and across campus to meet students' academic, cultural, social, and other related needs to enhance student success, and * general wellness.
  • Develops and maintains resources ongoing cultural activities.
  • Works collaboratively with division leadership and other stakeholders on fundraising and grant writing for new and existing funds that support student scholarships, programs, and services.
  • Oversees a comprehensive website, in addition to social media sites, with information for the campus community (students, faculty & staff), prospective students, friends of the center and alums.
  • Collaborates with campus and statewide stakeholders on K-12 outreach projects and programs.
  • Serves as the center's liaison and advocate between students, faculty and staff.
  • Represents the Division in campus and community outreach programs as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, with at least one year working in higher education or other related educational, non-governmental, community organization or related settings.
  • Leadership and/or supervisory, mentorship experience.
  • Demonstrated evidence in academic, social and/or cultural programming and management.
  • A high understanding of intercultural and interpersonal competencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Human Relations, Communications, Sociology, Psychology, Education or another related field.
  • Previous Inclusion Center experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated evidence in program development, implementation and assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience in public speaking, formal presentations, facilitating workshops and trainings forums.
  • Fiscal management experience.
  • Ability to work with different student data systems, generate and write executive reports.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • An understanding of current higher education and societal issues related to access, educational attainment, workforce alignment, accessibility and inclusive environments for all.
  • Superior communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Suite and social networking platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain highest levels of integrity and confidentiality.
