Job Description - Assistant Director for Employer Relations

Assistant Director for Employer Relations

Chatham University is inviting candidates to apply for the Assistant Director for Employer Relations role. This full-time, 12-month position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive plan related to employer relations with the highest potential to facilitate impactful professional experiences for all Chatham University undergraduate and graduate students. In this role, the Assistant Director maintains productive recruiting relationships with new and existing employers to sustain and expand their engagement with the University community, which includes management and execution of employer events, consistent outreach efforts to employers and internship sites, and close partnership with the Alumni Engagement office to cultivate relationships with alumni.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop goals and strategies for executing a comprehensive employer services program.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with external partners, including employers, professional associations, and community organizations.
  • Conduct research and stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to career services and employer relations.
  • Enhance the office's communication strategies to external partners and employers by providing accurate and up-to-date information about the advantages of hiring a Chatham student and the opportunities to recruit on site at the University.
  • Liaise with faculty and staff to build a database of external partners and employers.
  • Partner and collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs and other University departments to coordinate major career-related events at the University.
    • Plan and execute programming targeted at bringing employers to the University and providing opportunities for students to interact with employer partners. Programming should include but is not limited to employer site visits, panels, classroom lectures, on-campus interviewing, information sessions, and other networking events.
    • Represent the Career Development Office and the University at institutional and regional events.
  • Oversee employer contact database utilizing Handshake, LinkedIn, and other data sources.
  • Assess the effectiveness of employer relation efforts through surveys, feedback mechanisms, and data analysis, and use insights to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide support and guidance to Student Assistants involved in efforts to support Employer Relations.
  • Provide one-on-one advising to students on career-related topics, including resume writing, interviewing skills, job search strategies, and professional development.
  • Supervise graduate student assistants as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Two-to-four years of professional work experience; experience in higher education or related field; specific Career Development office experience, a plus.
  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's degree preferred in higher ed administration or related field.
  • A proven track record of success developing creating meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as students, faculty and staff, alumni, and employers; including ability to synthesize ideas and opportunities presented by external and internal partners to produce results.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and programs appropriately.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
  • Ability to engage in University and community outreach to develop programs and partnerships.
  • Effective communication skills, written skills, computer skills, including website and database design/management experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, antiracism, and the ability to foster inclusive communities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and strong commitment to customer service and a student-centered experience.
  • Experience working with students, faculty, and staff to deliver collaborative initiatives, programmatic support, and offer advice and guidance that enhances student performance and development.
