The Athletic Trainers Participate in the prevention, assessment, treatment, (including first aide) reconditioning and rehabilitation of sports related injuries for patients under the care of a physician as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Board of certification. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in care and treatment of all patients, including injured athletes. Discuss specific injuries, treatment and rehabilitation options or evaluate and treat patients as directed by a physician. Recognize and evaluate injuries. Collect data relative to patient history and mechanism of injury and report findings to physician. Provide first aid or emergency care as needed.
  • Develop and carry out rehabilitation for injured patients. Discuss specific injuries and treatment options or evaluate and treat patients as directed by a physician.
  • Develop, review, and refine patient home exercise/rehabilitation programs and patient educations programs, including injury prevention.
  • Apply protective or injury-preventive devices; includes the proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment. Apply and remove splints. Work directly with durable goods distributors, i.e. orthopedic brace distributors to make determinations on which goods are most appropriate for the patient.
  • Serve as primary liaison for direct scheduling and registration of athletes, performance artists and workers comp patients referred by Center's strategic partners. Orient medical students, residents and fellows to clinic operations.
  • Evaluate post-operative outcomes and functional/physical performance testing, including strength testing and jump testing as directed by a physician.
  • Interpret patients' medical information to schedule MRIs, nuclear medicine tests and other diagnostic tests, including pre-certifications and other insurance company requirements. Assist in obtaining financial/insurance clearance for surgical procedures, imaging/diagnostic testing, and physical therapy as needed.
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as keeping records and writing reports on injuries and treatment programs
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.




Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree required.
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association required.
  • Current and valid license by the State of Illinois as a Certified Athletic Trainer required.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required.
