Job Description - Circulation Operations Student Workleader

Primary work location: Geisel Library Building, La Jolla Main Campus. Non-standard work schedule during academic quarters: Tuesday - Thursday 9:00AM - 5:30PM and Friday - Saturday 9:45AM - 6:15PM.

DESCRIPTION

Our program strives to inspire and enable the effective discovery, use, creation, and exchange of knowledge to help Library users achieve their academic goals. Through our high-impact, high-use services, our staff are committed to innovative thinking, continuous improvement, a focus on the user experience, operational efficiency, and high standards for customer service. We offer service delivery that is cohesive, holistic, and intuitive for users. Service offerings include learning spaces and furnishings, collection access (excluding Special Collections & Archives), point-of-contact informational assistance to users, lending, course reserves, technology and equipment, collection maintenance, user assessment, and student-focused engagement. In partnership with Technology and Digital Experience (TDX) and other programs with a role in defining and assessing the digital user experience, Spaces, Lending and Access (SLA) provides leadership in exploring, shaping, and operating technology platforms central to the use of our services and offerings.

Under general supervision of the Circulations supervisor, provides the coordination and administration of recruitment, training, time-keeping of student employees. Serves as part of the overall SLA team and its Circulation Operations group, and supporting various projects, including designated collection maintenance tasks, and overall program success.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of library databases, catalogs, ILS, and their use to support library services.

  • Proven experience directing the work of others, including participating in the hiring, scheduling, training, supervising, delegating, coaching, and evaluating student employees.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills including the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy with a diverse clientele both verbally and in writing.

  • Proven ability to be self-directed, following through on assignments, working independently with minimal supervision, and meeting deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes by assessing procedures, seeking information and opinions, developing and implementing changes as appropriate.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Expected to participate in holiday and extended hours coverage as needed. Will be called upon to adjust work schedule to accommodate changing building and service hours to meet operational needs.

  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $58,339 - $84,460 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.94 - $40.45

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
