Job Description - Coordinator of Liturgy

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Under the direct supervision of the Pastor, develops, implements and evaluates all aspects of liturgy on weekends, major feast days and special liturgical celebrations; recruits, trains, oversees, supports, evaluates and fosters leadership within liturgical ministries; coordinates recruitment and training of liturgical ministers; oversees the rites for celebrants; serves as a resource person for the parish in the implementation of the RCIA and all sacrament celebrations; desires to be a part of a team who has a Vatican II vision of the church. Performs any other position-related tasks as deemed necessary and/or assigned by the Pastor or Parish Administrator.

DUTIES OF THE JOB:

Develops, implements and evaluates all aspects of liturgy on weekends, major feast days and special liturgical celebrations, i.e. Communal Reconciliation rites, First Eucharist, Confirmation, Holy Week, Liturgy of Healing, Blessing of Animals, etc. Be present at or have a personal representative from the Liturgy Committee present at weekend liturgies and major celebrations to coordinate the various ministries. Recruits, trains, oversees, supports, evaluates and fosters leadership within liturgical ministries. Forms and maintains a Liturgy Committee with a focus on the Vatican II documents on Liturgy. Creates Weekly liturgical schedules, communicates to staff and heads of ministries. Coordinates an Environment and Art committee and implements the vision of Vatican II as coordinated with the Pastor, for all the liturgical celebrations throughout the year and the changes of season. Supervises the use and storage of liturgical equipment. Prepares script for presiders for special Liturgies. Oversees the rites for celebrants by supervising the use of congregational aids, developing and implementing needed communication materials for each liturgy, preparing introduction to liturgy notes, prayers of the faithful, penitential rites and announcements. Prepares the annual liturgical calendar. Schedules all liturgical functions on parish calendar. Prepares and maintains liturgy budget and oversees purchase and maintenance of liturgical supplies. Assists the assembly to learn its role in the liturgy through classes, workshops, bulletin and email communication and working closely with the Director of Music. Serves as a resource person for the parish in the implementation of the RCIA and all sacrament celebrations. Keeps abreast of current Church teaching on liturgy and catechetics, determining ways to enhance liturgy and catechetical skills. Receives ongoing personal formation in liturgy by attending workshops and conventions. Invites staff and members of the parish to attend Liturgical/educational conferences. Performs any other position-related tasks as deemed necessary and/or assigned by the Pastor or Parish Administrator. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Master's Degree or BA in Liturgy or Theology, or the equivalent in education and experience. Has received personal formation and education in the Documents of the Second Vatican Council. Must have comprehensive understanding of liturgical principles; knowledge of management, supervision and administration skills; knowledge in appropriate lay leadership development skills; knowledge of communication skills; updated knowledge of liturgical trends; understand the principles and implications of music within the liturgical setting. Be willing and able to bring a collaborative style of leadership to the job responsibilities. Be able to work under pressure and within deadlines; must initiate, be creative and anticipate solutions to problems; needs good judgment in conflict situations and with differing personalities; needs ability to make timely and effective decisions. An excellent working relationship with the pastor is essential to the effectiveness of this position. Has experience in being a leader of worship and is able to sing and play an instrument to lead a congregation in Sung Prayer. (This would be a skill that would be an asset to a prospective candidate but not a requirement.) Completes and maintains Diocesan Safe Environment Training as required by the Diocese. Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License and have own transportation. Employee is subject to Diocesan and parish personnel policies prescribed for all personnel.
