Service Description: Part Time Court Liaison is a 3-month commitment to complete a minimum of 100 hours for a living allowance of $1,000 and an Education Award of $365 upon successful completion of service hours. The Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office utilizes AmeriCorps members and volunteers to serve in the JUMP for Kankakee County Kids one-to- one juvenile mentoring and job readiness program. JUMP partners community leaders and professionals with court-involved teenage youth at risk of academic failure, truancy, or involvement in delinquent activities in Kankakee County, Illinois. AmeriCorps members and volunteers will be responsible for reducing truancy rates and increasing educational scores among the service population, while also placing mentees into full and part-time employment and internship opportunities. AmeriCorps members and volunteers will be engaged in mentoring the target service population, program oversight, attending mentee’s court dates, and providing regular updates/reports to the juvenile’s judge and/or courtroom advocates.
Member Duties : Member Duties: • Assist with AmeriCorps and JUMP Juvenile Mentoring Program development and program evaluation measures • Work directly with AmeriCorps and JUMP Program Personnel and Program Partners • Weekly supervision • Attend meetings as scheduled • Attend fundraisers, events, and meetings • Attend court proceedings, teen court, and truancy meetings • Report progress to the presiding Judge of the Juvenile Division and keep juvenile probation officers, juvenile prosecutors and the mentee’s guardian ad-litem updated on the progress of the mentee • Engage with school counselors and administration regarding attendance and academic progress of the mentee • Document the mentee’s progress in the mentoring program, workplace and school setting • Identify other interventions or services to which the mentee may need a referral • Input data on the impact of the JUMP Program and the mentee’s overall progress in school, work, and court-imposed requirements
