Job Description - Data Analyst III - Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research

HJF is seeking a Data Analyst III to provide analytic support to epidemiologists, biostatisticians and scientists and ensure data quality and data integrity.

 

This position will be in support of The Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research at Uniformed Services University. The Data Analyst III will work alongside scientists, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and other appropriate research staff using real-world data and complex datasets. The analyst has advanced knowledge of real-world health data, can comment on the ability to answer research questions with this data, and can address complex challenges surrounding the use, acquisition, and analysis of these complex datasets. Further, the analyst is responsible for conducting analysis of this data and troubleshooting problems arise during acquisition and analysis. This includes producing publication ready results and visualizations. The analyst will provide feedback to scientists and biostatisticians during preparation of grants and protocols which propose to use real-world military data (e.g., the MDR, DMDC, etc) and will be able to produce analytical datasets from many sources (e.g., MDR data, complex longitudinal prospective data, and other datasets). Using innovative data science methods, the analyst will provide data driven solutions for both prospective and retrospective studies, including development of tools and processes for streamlining data collection and analysis.

  • Develops data-driven solutions to complex military health problems by utilizing tools, statistical analysis software, and computer programming to query, transform, and process complex datasets and real-world data into the appropriate format for statistical analysis.
  • Actively communicates with PIs and scientists regarding data issues and provides potential solutions for remedy.
  • Executes statistical analysis plans with biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and scientists to answer scientific questions. This includes producing predictive models from large datasets using biostatistical, epidemiological, and computer science methods and programming (e.g., machine learning and artificial intelligence).
  • Maintains awareness of ongoing processes and changes with real-world military datasets that could impact existing analyses and research.
  • Works with data managers to create data documentation and programming tools for data processes. Develops solutions for data collection, acquisition, storage, and analysis. This includes programming in data capture software (e.g., Redcap).
  • Produces and readily explains written results, tables, and visualizations from analyses in support of research efforts.
  • Uses innovative methods to streamline data processes, including conducting code audits and actively training and mentoring junior data analysts.
  • Assists program managers and other program leadership by developing tools for internal process improvement.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements for data security during acquisition, transfer, storage, and archiving.
  • Participates in data-related projects, including but not limited to data normalization, data maintenance, data research, data standardization, data product development, and data quality assurance.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience with the Military Health System Information Portal, specifically the Military Health System Data Repository (MDR), or other electronic health record databases. Familiarity with ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding.
  • Experience producing and analyzing large datasets from complex, real-world data for biostatisticians, epidemiologists, or scientists, with accompanying documentation. This includes producing predictive statistical models from longitudinal data. Experience with ML/AI is a plus.
  • Proficient in SAS (with experience using SAS Macros). Experience in R and/or Python is a plus.
  • Ability to investigate data issues and participate in remediation activities.
  • Statistical and data analysis skills are a must to assist gathering and solving data quality issues.
  • Ability to review detailed documents to validate data in operating systems.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.

Physical Capabilities 

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment  

  • Set in an office environment.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Required; Master’s Degree Preferred
  • Minimum of 6-8 years experience required.

Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
