Title: OEBS Relational Database Administrator Hiring Range: Negotiable and Commensurate with Experience Pay Band: 6 Agency: Department of State Police Location: North Chesterfield, Virginia Agency Website: vsp.virginia.gov Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties

  • Works with the eBusiness Functional Analysts to provide support for the eBusiness Suite production, test and development environments.
  • Provides consultation and recommendations for upgrades, backup and recovery and technical issues.
  • Works with the Department's Information Security Officer (ISO) and management to establish policy and procedures for security policies.
  • Monitors and optimizes the performance of the systems and databases.
  • Identifies and resolves problems.
  • Works with the eBusiness Functional Analysts to troubleshoot and monitor systems for potential problems.
  • Installs, configures and maintains Oracle system software and related products to ensure correct upgrades, patches and fixes are in place.
  • Works with the development team to provide support of the SQL Server relational database environment.
  • Provides consultation on relational database design, implementation and technical issues to our systems development team.
  • Provides recommendations for upgrades to SQL Server relational databases.
  • Provides recommendations for database security.
  • Provides support for database backup and recovery.
  • Works with the Department's ISO and management to establish policy and procedures for database security.
  • Monitors and optimizes the performance of application systems databases.
  • Identifies and resolves relational database problems.
  • Contacts and informs development staff on proper design and implementation of relational databases.
  • Works with development staff to troubleshoot and monitor systems for potential problems.
  • Installs, configures and maintains SQL Server system software and related products to ensure correct upgrades, patches and fixes are in place.
  • Establishes and maintains a modern, robust, flexible, secure, reliable, and efficient technology environment.
  • Ensures training, cross training/knowledge transfer occurs for self, team members, across teams and clients.
  • Keeps up to date on database products and technologies.
  • Assists and provides direction to co-workers in using new techniques and in solving their more complex technical problems.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to assist the Department or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Considerable knowledge of and experience with Oracle Databases, Oracle eBusiness Suite, and UNIX environments to include day to day activities for Oracle eBusiness Suite such as cloning, patching, code migration, performance tuning, capacity planning, database monitoring, user management, backup/recovery management, and SR management is required.
  • Experience with Oracle eBusiness modules is required.
  • Experience with Oracle eBusiness 12.2 version is required.
  • Experience using the Oracle Applications Framework (OAF) technology stack including JDeveloper, PL/SQL, Workflow, and Forms is required.
  • Experience working independently to review Oracle notes and work with Oracle support is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also required.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with UNIX scripting is highly preferred.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited college or university with major study in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field is preferred.
