Job Description - Department Manager

Michael Baker International is seeking to hire a Full-Time Department Manager II - Planning to work out of the Milwaukee, WI office. As the Department Manager II - Planning, you will be responsible for the Planning Department's day to day management and operation. You will also be responsible for oversight of all projects being undertaken by the Department, including adherence to project scope, schedule, budget, and quality control/quality assurance, staff utilization and the safety of the team. The Department Manager will also be responsible to serve as project manager on select projects, as well as, developing and maintaining positive client relations. Finally, the Department Manager will be responsible for developing and growing the planning team in Wisconsin while closely collaborating with Michael Baker's National Design Hub team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Responsible for the department's operations through planning, delegation, execution, and review of work objectives.
  • Coordinates business development activities of PMs within the Department including go/no go decision inputs, client outreach and marketing, teaming arrangements, proposal development and review, and interview preparation and delivery.
  • Serve as project manager for selected projects.
  • Responsible for direct labor ratio and utilization goals at the department level.
  • Oversee project requirements by ensuring that quality standards and project deadlines are met.
  • Responsible for winning work (NNWA), backlog and growing/ expanding the business.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining client relations and management, including monitoring client satisfaction. Clients include internal and external.
  • Fully engage on key Department pursuits and participate in the development and execution of Capture Plans with the objective of increasing the win probability of targeted pursuits.
  • Assist in the strategy and messaging for targeted pursuits, including all elements to craft a winning proposal.
  • Provides input to the annual budgetary development process in coordination with finance and upper- level operations management.
  • Reviews analyses of project activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine department progress toward stated goals and objectives.

  • Lead department compliance and adherence to quality management and quality assurance practices.
  • Maintains current knowledge regarding applicable regulatory, legal, industry practice and company/ client standards of procedure (SOPs).
  • Ensures projects within the Department adhere to Michael Baker Quality Management requirements including Project Management Plans, Quality Verification Forms.
  • Expected to be billable on projects as appropriate.
  • Solves sensitive administrative issues that surface within the department as required.
  • Occasional to moderate travel might be required.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Generally, grow and manage a department of 5-10 team members.
  • Executes personnel management duties to include, hiring, training, timekeeping approval, performance assessment, promotion/career progression recommendations, retention, voluntary turnover, disciplinary action, and employment termination.


EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15 - 20 years related experience
  • Bachelors degree in technical field or related field required
  • Proper license or certificate for discipline required.
  • Practical Budgetary Ability
  • Ability to effectively multi-task under stress and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated collaborative team leadership and team building.
  • Proficient knowledge of the company safety program
  • Business to Business Professional Relations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills


COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position $115,064- $188,704 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location. BENEFITS
