Departmental Overview Berkeley Public Health (BPH) aims to improve population health, especially for the most vulnerable, through interdisciplinary collaborations, preeminent education, and transformational research. Established in 1943, BPH is a professional school on the UC Berkeley campus that comprises six academic divisions and nearly 30 research centers and programs.   • Collaborates with the Chief Social Impact Officer to develop and execute an impactful social impact strategy to help transform Berkeley Public Health into a global leader in social impact. This includes gathering and analyzing internal and external input; identifying opportunities and gaps; and outlining goals, strategies, and metrics.
  • Plans and operationalizes new social impact partnerships, programs and initiatives including developing concepts, proposals, scopes of work, pitches and budgets.
  • Works closely with Berkeley Public Health development office and funders to secure needed resources.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with external and internal stakeholders including the local community, funders, policymakers, opinion leaders, industry and startups.
  • Plans impactful events, gatherings, speaker series, and workshops including conceptualizing, planning, promoting, and managing these activities.
  • Develops and executes strategies to promote and amplify Berkeley Public Health's social impact work including through articles, presentations, podcasts and social media, collaborating closely with the communications team.
  • Manages operations, budgets, hiring, communications and other functions.
  • Participates in workshops, training and other professional development opportunities
  • Completes other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications Developing Strategy:
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and aligning teams around high impact strategies.
Leading Partnerships and Coalitions:
  • Demonstrated skills in building partnerships and coalitions, developing shared vision with diverse stakeholders and collaborating across ecosystems to reach common goals.
Mobilizing Resources:
  • Track record raising funds for new initiatives, products or companies leveraging an entrepreneurial spirit and strong narrative skills.
Building New Initiatives:
  • Proven ability to operationalize, plan and execute complex new initiatives and projects with a focus on action, experimentation and iteration.
Convening and Facilitation:
  • Experience designing, facilitating and managing small and large events.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained; sound judgment; ability to draw unbiased conclusions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and ability to integrate core concepts of DEIB into everyday practice.
Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Master's degree in related field and / or equivalent experience / training.
Preferred Qualifications Shaping Policy:
  • Deep understanding of state and national policy processes and mechanisms and expertise shaping and influencing policy direction.
Creating Change in a Large Organization:
  • Experience leading change in large academic, government or other organizations.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $105,500.00 - $153,100.00.
  • This is a 24-month, 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), contract position that is eligible for full UC benefits with the possibility of extension.
  • This position is exempt and paid monthly.
