Director Pharmacy and Retail Operations Location Earth City, MO : Job Objectives:
Responsible for operationalizing and executing area strategies to integrate all Walgreens businesses offering products and services within an area, including retail self-service, retail pharmacy, clinics, specialty pharmacy, and other business units as appropriate. Facilitates and fosters a culture in which all Walgreens businesses form a cohesive team that supports overall business growth within an area and drives corporate initiatives. Leads change management by motivating teams to buy-in and deliver on new initiatives
Provides coaching and guidance to District Managers, Healthcare Specialty Supervisors and Healthcare Supervisors, driving employee engagement and increasing overall performance and developing future leaders.
Ensures District Managers and Healthcare Specialty Supervisors have the appropriate resources to improve store sales, profitability and in store condition, protection of store assets, the selection, training and development of team members. Responsible for ensuring a high quality, distinctive and delightful customer experience in the front end and pharmacy across the area.
Develops area strategy in collaboration with Regional Vice President and Regional Healthcare Director, leveraging all area resources. Develops area plans to execute strategy set forth by Regional Vice President.
Owns area business, sets priorities, and protects direct reports capacity to deliver against area/ district objectives.
Accountable for exception store performance, using key metrics and coaching District Managers for sustainable improvement.
Develops area-wide recruitment strategy and owns the talent pipeline.
Works in coordination with Healthcare Supervisor/Healthcare Specialty Supervisor to steer pharmacy outcomes and Beauty Area Expert in driving the beauty strategy across the area.
Champions customer service.
Job Responsibilities: Operations:
Ensures execution of area strategies and corporate strategic initiatives through focused district visits, and coaching of District Managers. Holds District Managers accountable for execution and performance. Work with Healthcare Supervisor/Healthcare Specialty Supervisor and Beauty Area Expert to drive pharmacy and beauty initiatives across the area, holding them accountable for performance.
Manages performance of area through metrics and reports, leveraging region support staff as needed.
Provides input to Regional Vice President on key merchandising needs for the areas; ensures in store execution of Corporate merchandising plans through District Managers. Identifies trends and patterns in competitive merchandising strategy and recommends actions if necessary to Regional Merchandising Manager.
Engages exception stores using key metrics to identify areas for improvement.
Market Development:
Supports Regional Vice President and Regional Healthcare Director in developing and managing local healthcare relationships. Develops action plans to grow key relationships within own area and is accountable for owning those relationships.
Works with District Managers, Healthcare Supervisors, and Healthcare Specialty Supervisors to identify key community events and in an effort to enhance target relationships. Works with Beauty Area Expert to drive the beauty strategy across the area.
Business Performance Management
Works with Finance Manager to review area financials and KPIs to create action plans, conduct business forecasting and analysis for business planning sessions. Develops store and district improvement plans and holds District Manager and Healthcare Specialty Supervisors accountable for execution of plan.
Leads financial review meetings.
Business Planning:
Provides input to Regional Vice President on strategic priorities to inform region plans.
Develops area plans in line with area targets set by Regional Vice President. Allocates and communicates district and store level targets set by Regional Vice President.
Consults and informs Regional Vice President on area real estate context.
People & Performance Management:
Manages relationships with local schools, colleges and professional organizations.
Focuses on coaching and developing District Managers, Healthcare Supervisors/Healthcare Specialty Supervisors and Beauty Area Experts to drive employee engagement, while protecting the capacity of direct reports and ensuring their ability to execute. Trains District Manager, Healthcare Specialty Supervisor and Healthcare Supervisor on core initiatives, pharmacy operations, providing ongoing coaching and development.
Responsible and accountable for engaging exception stores to ensure follow through and improvement planning and execution. Ensures sufficient District Manager and Healthcare Specialty Supervisor coaching and performance management.
Drives performance management process for District Managers, Healthcare Supervisors, Healthcare Specialty Supervisors, Beauty Area Experts and Administrative Assistant.
Ensures compliance with all corporate policies, applicable employment laws, and is consistently fair in the treatment of all team members.
Champions and owns change at the area level, in partners with the Healthcare Supervisor to gain buy-in and deliver on new initiatives.
Owns the recruitment and talent strategy for the area.
Training & Personal Development:
Participates in training and supports training efforts where necessary.
Seeks self-development by monitoring own performance, setting high personal standards, increasing knowledge of retail, pharmacy and management fields, seeking and sharing best practices.
Communications:
Cascades information from conference calls, regional meetings, and corporate initiatives to direct reports as needed. Reviews and cascades emails from Corporate and Regional Vice Presidents to District Managers and Healthcare Specialty Supervisors.
Communicates regularly with managers and team members through one-on-one discussions, group meetings and in writing to keep them apprised, solicit input, answer questions and ensuring communication is open.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 7 years of multi-unit retail management experience.
Valid driver's license.
Willingness to work flexible schedule including extended days, evenings, and weekend hours.
Willingness to travel 75% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
