Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Administration's General Services Division is offering a DoD-SkillBridge internship for the position of Operations Manager. This highly responsible role involves overseeing multiple locations, including the Arizona State Hospital and the Tucson Capitol Complex. The position requires strong administrative skills, experience in hospital operations, and knowledge of Deming methodology and management protocols.


As an Operations Manager intern, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strong business plans with realistic and achievable fiscal and project-based goals. You will oversee the overall operations of the Arizona State Hospital and Tucson Capitol Complex, collaborating with management to set performance goals and long-term operational plans. Your role will involve maximizing efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration. You will work with managers and supervisors to develop financial and budgetary plans, analyze current operational processes and performance, and recommend solutions for improvement when necessary. Working closely with human resources, you will lead the team with integrity, establishing and maintaining a trusting, inclusive, and productive environment.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for employee appraisals, disciplinary actions, setting goals for all employees, managing and accounting for workflow, updating metrics for team goals and using data to formulate a plan of action on difficult problems
  • Responsible for oversight of contract administration including workmanship, compliance to contract, and payment
  • Meet with key vendors regularly to review any issues or concerns and keep them apprised of any changes to ADOA practices
  • Responsible for identifying training needs, tracking performance, coaching, and motivating direct reports
  • Mentors and coaches team member to further develop competencies
  • Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the ADOA values
  • Collaborate with management in the development of performance goals and long-term operational plans
  • Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration
  • Set strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity
  • Work with managers and supervisors in the development of financial and budgetary plans
  • Analyze current operational processes and performance, recommending solutions for improvement when necessary
  • Develop, implement, and monitor day-to-day operational systems and processes that provide visibility into goals, progress, and obstacles for our key initiatives
  • Build and maintain relationships with all department heads, external partners, and vendors to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals
  • Plan, monitor, and analyze key metrics for the day-to-day performance of the operations to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks
  • Devise strategies to ensure development of programs enterprise-wide, identifying and implementing process improvements that will maximize output and minimize costs
  • Uphold organization policies and standards, ensuring legislative regulations are followed
