Dual Diagnosis- Medical Coder

Silver Lake Hospital of Newark, NJ is seeking to hire a full-time Psychiatric Dual Diagnosis Medical Coder to assign codes to psychiatric/behavioral health medical procedures and diagnoses. The Coder will utilize knowledge of the DSM-5, insurance regulations, health insurance contracts, medical coding, and bookkeeping to perform a variety of activities. Our full-time Coder will work Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Dual Diagnosis Medical Coder will be equipped with profound knowledge of the DSM-5 and have the expert ability to interpret and appropriately code for the complete determinations that make up each patient event. The Coder will evaluate medical records and charge tickets to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with the International Classification of Diseases Manual - Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM), and the American Medical Associations Current Procedural Terminology Manual (CPT). The Coder will g ather physician background information from various resources for reporting purposes. The Coder will also provide technical guidance and training on medical coding to physicians and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Possession of a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification.
• High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in health information systems or related field preferred.
• Two years of experience in medical record coding in a psychiatric or behavioral health setting.
• Expert knowledge of the DSM-5.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) issued by the American Health Information Management Association or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) issued by NAMSS.
• Expert knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT coding guidelines; medical terminology; anatomy and physiology; state and federal Medicare reimbursement guidelines.
• Ability to research and analyze data, draw conclusions, and resolve issues; read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret medical procedures and terminology.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports and related documents and to maintain working relationships with physicians and other staff.
