Job Description - Family services program coordinator

The Department of  Children and Family Services (CFS)  is recruiting for a Children and Family Services (CFS) Program Coordinator* . The CFS Program Coordinator* will supervise operations and projects, while serving as a liaison with County departments and divisions. 

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:  

  • Supervise support staff; assign and review work; prepare and sign work performance evaluations; participate in hiring and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop project plans and timelines; researches, analyzes and prepares recommendations regarding projects to management; establishes and maintains a system for tracking project activities, progress, and outcomes; monitors project progress and provides technical and administrative support.
  • Gather and analyze information pertaining to project needs, including overall project evaluation; develop and monitor data collection systems.
  • Provide input on operational policies and procedures as it relates to the projects.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of department and county policies and procedures, and state and federal laws that may affect the department.
  • Research, compile and organizes information for use by management and identifies both direct and indirect impacts of recommendations made.
  • Provide input on project related budget requests, including equipment and material forecasts for submission to management. Prepare a variety of reports, records, correspondence and other documents.
  • Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.

THE DEPARTMENT


Children and Family Services (CFS) provides family-centered programs and services designed to ensure safety, permanence and well-being for San Bernardino County's children while strengthening and attempting to preserve the family unit. CFS helps prevent further harm to children from intentional physical or mental injury, sexual abuse, exploitation or neglect by a person responsible for a child's health and welfare. Services provided include: Emergency Response, Family Maintenance, Family Reunification and Permanency Planning. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


Location Assignment : Location assignments are made solely at the discretion of the Director of Children and Family Services and based on department needs. Employees must be willing to accept employment and work throughout the County, including the following CFS locations:  San Bernardino, Barstow, Fontana, Needles, Rancho Cucamonga, Victorville, and/or Yucca Valley. Refusal of assigned location may result in removal from the list or termination. Office locations may change due to space and department operational needs.

Shift Availability : Shift availability may change for any given event, as well as across geographic regions. Shift assignments are made solely at the discretion of the Director of Children and Family Services and based on department needs. Employees must be willing to accept ALL shifts, including mandatory overtime. The incumbents may be required to work rotating, swing, night, weekend, day, on call, and graveyard shifts, as well as holidays and weekends (which may include overtime). Refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination. Shift availability may change due to department operational needs.

 

Travel : Travel throughout the County is required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

Experience: Two (2) years of project management experience in which the primary   responsibility   includes oversight and coordination of projects, defining project scope, and developing project   timelines.

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business/public administration, behavioral/social science, psychology, sociology, social services, human services or education.

Substitution : An additional four (4) years of experience may substitute for the required education.

Note:  Qualifying degree or coursework must have been completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.

The ideal candidate will have superior communication, organizational, customer service and time management skills and a proven track record managing and meeting tight deadlines.  The ability to work effectively with management and staff while handling multiple projects is a must.
