Job Description - Financial Services Director

Financial Services Director (Student Services Leader) Location Indianapolis, IN (Downtown area) : Department DEAN MED-ADMISSION (IN-DMAS-IUINA) Job Summary Department-Specific Responsibilities Assesses the effectiveness of the current financial aid program administration to generate proposals for executive leadership that provide a basis for strategic planning efforts affecting future initiatives. Manages and confirms IUSM maintains compliance with all federal and state aid regulations as well as all university financial aid policies and procedures. Oversees the administrative details of the Office of Student Financial Services, working with academic units, scholarships, admissions, Office of Gift Development, IUSM Registrar, student advocate, IU-Indianapolis Bursar and IU-Indianapolis Office of Student Financial Services, other IU financial aid programs. Ensures that all federal and state financial aid programs are optimized in the best interest of the student aid population and that financial aid packaging strategies complement the enrollment goals of IUSM. Ensures the dissemination of financial aid information that includes and not limited to student orientation programs, campus visits, listservs, office website, and other communication strategies. Include large group correspondence regarding financial aid. Works with the Scholarship Operations Team in continuing to refine efforts and identify strategies and efficiencies. Develops and implements SFS personnel policies and procedures, schoolwide internal and external communications, audits, and compliance. Directs the management of SFS data to achieve internal reporting that will guide and enable executive school leaders to strategize and confirm school goals. Collaborates and consults with the IUSM Office of Admissions to meet the enrollment goals of IUSM (recruitment scholarship strategies, etc.). Represents the office on various internal and external funding agencies, media, student groups and other external publics. Completes AAMC and LCME Reports in an accurate and timely manner, such as the Tuition and Fees Report in July and the LCME School 1B Financial Aid Questionnaire in September). Makes advising and counseling available to students and parents who are seeking information on financial assistance. Ensures efficacy and accuracy of all financial aid processing. Ensures the efficacy and accuracy of all in-person student financial transactions and reporting. Monitors student borrowing habits and levels to develop effective financial literacy programs. General Responsibilities Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define student services methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority student services projects/initiatives. Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase student services initiatives. Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal. Manages high level assignments and allocation of student services resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale student services projects with wide audiences in support of academic, wellness, inclusion, and safety initiatives. Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment. Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry student services standards, technologies, policies, and procedures; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs. Works collaboratively with other student services leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures. Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to student services. Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education. EDUCATION Required ~ Bachelor's degree in law, public health, public affairs, counseling, social work, or related field. Preferred ~ Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field. WORK EXPERIENCE Required 4 years in student services, higher education student affairs, or related field. 1 year of management experience in relevant field. Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
