Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

The Gas Pipeline Operation and Maintenance (GPOM) Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that installation, repair, and maintenance of gas distribution and transmission facilities are in full compliance with CFR Title 49, GO 112E, GO 58A, and company standards. The Gas Distribution Supervisor supervises up to 12 gas employees and leads to foster a culture of employee engagement.

 

Responsibilities include communicating clear expectations; monitoring performance using performance management techniques; observing and coaching employees in the field about safe work practices and compliance to standards; ensuring that training, development, and required certifications are current; taking disciplinary action as needed; and administering the appropriate labor contract.

 

Additionally, this position requires regular travel to oversee projects and crews in the field within assigned geographic area. As supervisor, you may work unusual hours in emergency situations, and are on-call for emergency situations.

 

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would land at or near the top half of the range described below, but the decision will be dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

 

A reasonable salary range is: ​

 

Annual Minimum: $129,000.00

Annual Maximum: $207,000.00

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the work through a team of gas craft employees, ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements and alignment with company values.
  • Ensure that work is executed safely as planned, including managing daily exceptions.  Monitor compliance to standards and specifications, to achieve high quality work the first time done.
  • Develop action plans to address deficiencies in process or employee skill/knowledge and track the progress of those plans.
  • Complete and maintain all work documentation or reporting. Communicate business goals and objectives to the work group. Effectively utilize resources by monitoring crew productivity.
  • Identify and pursue productivity improvements and implement work practices to reduce operating costs while meeting corporate and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop the business knowledge and technical skills of field employees. Foster teamwork with all other company work groups.
  • Ensure that customers' needs and expectations are met; ensure clear, professional, proactive communication with customers.
  • Fully implement and hold subordinates accountable for safety best practices and adherence to the safety accountability model.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Injury & Illness Prevention Program, working closely with the Safety Program Coordinator.  Facilitate weekly team meetings/tailboards; may conduct training as needed.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High-School Diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience may include exposure to utility, operations and maintenance, construction, logistics or service planning work.
  • CA Driver's License.

  Desired:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction, Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3 years of journey-level experience in the Distribution/Construction Field or Equivalent GT&D.
  • Engineering Experience. Previous Supervisory experience of bargaining unit employees.
  • Strong Leadership skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel along with daily routine experience of e-mail and Communications.
  • Working knowledge of the IBEW Contract. Knowledge of the California Public Utility Commission General Orders (GO) 95, 128, 165 and/or 112E.
  • Basic SAP software experience. Supplemental coursework in related technical area or management.
