ODNR owns and manages state parks, state forests, state nature preserves and wildlife areas. We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

We are accepting applications for a Geologist 3 within the Division of Oil and Gas headquartered in Franklin County . The address is 22045 Morse Rd. Columbus, OH 43229. To learn more about the Division of Oil and Gas please visit

What you will do:

  • Plan and conduct complex geologic research and review for Underground Injection Control (UIC) well drilling, converting, operating and plugging applications submitted for permit issue.
  • Review casing programs using geologic and hydrogeologic data; ensure applications, plats, casing programs, etc. meet requirements of Ohio Revised Code Chapter 1509 and Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 1501.
  • Conduct area of review investigations, research geologic and hydrogeologic area information and environmental policies and procedures prior to recommending approval of variance request.
  • Review and interpret well completions information, topographic and structure maps, plugging reports.
  • Review and analyze geologic formation depths, UIC well quarterly and annual reports, geophysical logs, spacing and casing programs and enter into computer database.
  • Provide technical assistance and advice to public, oil and gas industry, environmental and oil and gas consultants, government agencies pertaining to spacing, location, ownership of wells, casing program, geologic formations, statistics and ORC Chapter 1509 and OAC chapter 1501.
  • Starting hourly pay of $27.84/ hour with multiple pay increases over your first 9 years of service and an ending hourly pay of $40.77/hour.

Qualifications


Completion of an undergraduate core program in geology, hydrogeology or other specialized geologic science AND 24 months of experience in a geologic field, laboratory &/or drafting methods & techniques.



  • OR completion of graduate core program in geology, hydrogeology or other specialized geologic science AND 12 months of experience in a geologic field, laboratory &/or drafting methods.


  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
