Job Description - High School Theatre Teacher

Job Title: High School Theatre Teacher  Main Purpose: Corvian Community School develops the whole child and seeks to address the cognitive, emotional, social and physical needs of each student. The ultimate goal is to help students develop happy, healthy lives well-equipped for the future.

Core Accountabilities: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated High School Theatre Teacher to join our dynamic team. Our charter school values creativity, innovation, and the arts as vital components of a comprehensive education. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in theatre arts and a commitment to fostering a love for theatre in students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.  Key Outputs/Results:  

  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive theatre arts curriculum that aligns with state standards and school goals, including but not limited to acting, directing, playwriting, technical theatre, and theatre history.
  • Instruction: Teach a range of theatre courses to students in grades 9-12, employing diverse teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles.
  • Production Management: Direct and produce school theatre productions, including selecting plays, casting, rehearsing, and overseeing all aspects of performance and technical production.
  • Student Engagement: Inspire and motivate students to participate in theatre arts, encouraging creativity, teamwork, and personal growth.
  • Assessment: Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations, providing constructive feedback to support their development.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues, administration, and parents to support students' educational experience and to integrate theatre arts into the broader school community.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in theatre education, participating in professional development opportunities and contributing to the school’s learning community.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Facilitate theatre-related extracurricular activities, such as drama clubs, workshops, and field trips to theatrical performances.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Theatre Education, or a related field
  • Valid state teaching certification preferred
  • Previous experience teaching theatre at the high school level; experience in a charter school setting is a plus

Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of theatre arts, including acting, directing, technical theatre, and theatre history.
  • Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and the community.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with technology and theatre production software.
