Job Description - HR Generalist - Recruiter

Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest (LSS-SW) is a non-profit founded in 1970 to help meet the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors. LSS-SW fulfills a mission to provide services that:

LSS-SW serves over 5,000 Arizonans each month Metro Phoenix, Tucson and southern Arizona in the areas of Refugee Services, Aging & Disability Services, Family Services and Emergency Services.

Pay Rate: $65,000

Location: Phoenix

Bilingual English/Spanish Required.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resource Generalist will perform Human Resources functions requiring good judgement based on thorough understanding of employment law and regulations, HR processes and best practices and provided in a manner that supports program/business requirements and LSS-SW values. This position has primary responsibility for Recruitment.

Primary point of contact for Recruitment. Collaborate with hiring managers and department leadership to understand the needs of open positions, coordinate within HR regarding all comp/class needs. Manage talent acquisition systems and processes, provide recruitment related reporting. Facilitates hiring of qualified candidates including assist with job posting process, screen resumes, assist with phone screens and interviews, complete pre-employment checks, coordinate offers and on-boarding. Provide support for and assist in facilitating NEO.

Assist in maintaining the data entry of new hires, employee changes, terminations, and excel spreadsheets in a confiden ti al, organized, and legally compliant manner. Complete employment verifica ti ons, background checks, E-Verify, Central Registry, MVR, and electronic filing of records. Assist in the creation, and maintenance, of employee files .

Independently and/or in concert with HR team, provides Human Resources related policy and procedure guidance to employees and management, works towards solutions of often complex and sensitive employment related inquiries from various parties for matters including but not limited to disciplinary matters; disputes, conflict resolution and investigations; performance and talent management; compensation & classification; productivity, recognition, and engagement; occupational health and safety; benefits and leaves.

Performs specialized tasks required to administer and execute HR programs. In concert with HR team, maintain and edit employee-related policies and procedures; support communication regarding changes in policies and procedures to Team Members and management. Participate in special projects, such as audits and reporting, as well as process improvements and implementation of new programs.

Assists and provides back-up support in managing health and welfare benefit programs , worker's compensation claims, UI claims, LOA's, and COBRA.

Maintains in-depth knowledge and stays current with HR related trends, best practices, new technologies and regulatory changes with state and Federal laws; including but not limited to Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Equal Employment Opportunity. Partners with the Contract and Program teams to ensure compliance as needed.

Requires:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or four years of experience in lieu of education.
  • Minimum of three year related Human Resources experience.
  • Minimum of one year full-cycle recruitment experience, including online job boards and TA/HRIS systems
  • Working knowledge of Arizona and Federal employment laws and regulations
  • HRCI or SHRM Certification preferred
  • Clear a criminal background and motor vehicle screening; must have an acceptable driving record and be able to maintain and valid Arizona driver's license
  • Valid Level 1 Fingerprint Card (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Good time management ability and ability to work independently
  • Proficient with computers and related business electronics, systems and software, including Microsoft Office products, HRIS and TA systems
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish both written and verbal is required
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. The Team Member frequently is required to use hands to hold objects and operate office equipment
  • The Team Member may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to work within the mission of LSS-SW
