Job Description - Intervention Specialist

Position Summary
The Montessori School of Raleigh (MSR) seeks an Intervention Specialist for the 2024-2025 school year beginning August 12, 2024. The Intervention Specialist will serve as a member of the Student Support Team, applying their specialized knowledge in  reading and math interventions.

Overview
Established in 1974, MSR is a vibrant and exceptional independent Montessori and International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in the Triangle area serving 400+ students aged 6 weeks through 18 years. MSR is committed to the intellectual, ethical, and personal development of our students. Our beautifully designed  Lead Mine Campus, situated on 10 acres in North Raleigh, comprises five buildings in a child-centered, village-like setting surrounded by wetlands and protected forest. Our Middle and Upper Schools are housed on an expansive 40-acre wooded campus in Brier Creek in Durham. Both sites were carefully planned and constructed to provide the nature-centered environments integral to Montessori practice. Qualifications

  • Minimum three-to-five years teaching experience in reading and math within grades  K-6; additional secondary school experience is a plus
  • Previous experience in a Montessori classroom and/or International Baccalaureate (IB) environment and/or Special Education is  a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Education or a related field; Master’s degree in Education or related field is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of evidence-based practices in  Reading and Mathematics
  • Orton-Gillingham (or a related program) Trained preferred
  • Sufficient and precise in data preparation and management such that limited supervision or review is required to verify data

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:     

  • Adhere to AMS guidelines and professional standards
  • Adhere to all health and safety protocols, policies, and procedures, as well as maintain a clean environment with regard to hygiene
  • Develop and sustain positive and supportive relationships with students
  • Provide instruction for designated children with accommodations, intervention plans, or those who meet criteria for additional support or enrichment based on the guidelines set by the Student Support Team
  • Instruct differentiated small group literary and math lessons, with a particular emphasis on Grades K - 3, through pull-out and push-in service models
  • Deliver interventions in reading and/or math based on changes in school-wide needs, as determined by data-based trends and administrative direction
  • Bolster student opportunities for instruction and learning by providing afterschool tutoring, within working hours
  • Provides intervention services with an understanding of, or willingness to learn about, Multi-tiered Systems of Supports, including assessment, intervention, and evaluation
  • Maintain yearly, organized, updated, and explicit records of students receiving and potentially receiving services including assessments, meeting minutes, conversational documentation
  • Assist teachers by identifying students’ needs, providing support through in-house assessments, observation, implementation, interventions, and enrichment
  • Coach/support staff members on the use and methods of data collection
  • Support teachers to increase differentiation for students with learning differences
  • Provide consultation to parents, teachers, other school personnel, and community agencies to enhance student learning and adjustment
  • Use expertise to educate and discuss learning differences with familes
  • Be available to parents through written communication, scheduling conferences, and educating parents in Montessori philosophy
  • Create positive relationships with parents and colleagues by returning emails within 48 hours on workdays
  • Collaborate with other members of the student support team to provide professional development and learning opportunities for School faculty and staff
  • Join and partner with divisional and interdisciplinary teams
  • Assist in standardized testing and implementation of accommodations
  • Stay abreast of trends, research, and best practices for instruction
  • Other duties as assigned by the School Psychologist, Head of Lower School, and Head of School

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The Intervention Specialist can expect to:

  • Work in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment spending extended periods of time at a desk and working on a computer
  • Regularly sit, talk, hear, and interact with staff
  • Apply knowledge of Google Office Suite, including Calendar, Docs, Sheets, and Forms
  • Occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Regularly use close and distance vision
  • Turn, bend, and reach
  • Occasional night and weekend hours will be required
