Job Description - Manager-Surgery (Knoxville)

Market Range: 10

Hiring Range: $4,144.04 - $5,655.33

THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Manager, in conjunction with the Department Chair and Program Director, is responsible for the management of the Department of Surgery's day-to-day administrative functions and financial structure. This position is responsible for the development and maintenance of the administrative structure and workflow of the department, residency programs, fellowships, and clerkships.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Supervises administrative support staff, residency, and fellowship support staff to include counseling, disciplinary action and conducting annual performance evaluations. Orients and trains administrative staff.

2. Ensures that department, university, and hospital policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by faculty, staff and residents.

3. Manages the recruitment and selection of faculty recruitment and administrative staff by submitting appropriate paperwork for open positions for advertisement, screening resumes, overseeing faculty recruitment visits, interviewing or scheduling interviews with applicants, arranging faculty lodging and providing input on selection.

4. Prepares, completes, and submits hire paperwork and/or documents of employment for faculty, faculty appointments, volunteer faculty and administrative staff. Schedules orientation, pre-employment drug screening, and processes moving expense reports for faculty.

5. Manages accounting activities and prepares reports for the Department Chair; participates in budget planning and management; attends budget meetings with the Chair.

6. Oversees the Department's Promotion and Tenure process, assists in identifying faculty who are eligible for promotion or tenure, and advises the Chair and Committee chair on rules and procedures relating to promotion and tenure.

7. Requests and approves work orders, construction services, facility planning, computer services, housekeeping, and maintenance .

8. Oversees the travel requests and expenses for faculty, Chairman, Program Director, and residency support staff.

9. Oversees the day-to-day management of supplies, equipment, and facilities for the department including maintenance, inventory management and housekeeping.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.
