Job Description

We are seeking an instructor dedicated to excellence in teaching who desire to make a difference in the lives of our students. This teaching assignment is located on the Austin Campus. The instructor will be assigned to teach in a traditional classroom and lab format .


Activities related to comprehensive community college teaching and learning, including but not limited to:

  • Instructional planning and delivery;
  • Teaching and facilitating student learning;
  • Curriculum planning and development;
  • Assessment of student performance;
  • Classroom management;
  • Maintenance of professional skills and credentials;
  • Participation in department meetings, coordination activities, and college-wide committees


The candidate must be able to work cooperatively with faculty and staff, demonstrate knowledge of and experience in assessment of student learning outcomes, participate in department meetings, college-wide committees, and maintain ongoing professional development activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirement

  • Graduate degree with a major in nursing, or
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing and a graduate degree in support of the field of nursing and/or education.
  • A nursing program director must hold a graduate degree in nursing, nursing administration, nursing education, public health nursing or a nursing clinical specialty.

Occupational Experience Requirement

  • Two full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience as a registered nurse at the professional level.
  • As a registered nurse at the professional level, experientially qualified to accomplish the mission, goals, and expected student and faculty outcomes; including experiential preparation in the areas the faculty will teach.

Recency Requirement

  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.

Professional Requirement

  • Current unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse (RN) with current registration in Minnesota.
  • Other Requirement: Compliance with clinical affiliate policies for attending on-site clinical teaching assignments.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Commitment to departmental participation, vision, and planning.
  • Doctor – Nursing Practice (DNP).
  • Experience with simulation, nursing skills labs, clinical instruction and lecture (curriculum) development.
  • Experience teaching/tutoring all levels of nursing.
  • Experience with data collection and continuous improvement analysis.
  • Understanding of the two year community college mission and familiarity with Minnesota State.
  • Willingness to collaborate with community partners, including health/science organizations, high schools and regional employers.
  • Bilingual/Multilingual fluent in Spanish, Somali, Karen, Anuak, Nuer or other languages that reflect our student body, workforce, and communities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a multicultural and underserved populations.
