General Excavating is an award-winning contractor serving public and private owners throughout the state of Nebraska. General Excavating specializes in the construction of; underground utilities, environmental remediation, excavation shoring, directional drilling, hydro-excavation, and heavy civil construction of bridge and concrete structures.


General Excavating is searching for a highly motivated Office Assistant, who is responsible for performing a range of administrative tasks to support daily operations within the office and accounting department. Duties include sorting and distributing mail and invoices throughout the office, greeting office visitors and directing them to employees, maintaining files and records, and other responsibilities to ensure the office runs smoothly.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Maintain records ensuring accuracy and validity of information for accounting, safety, and project management team.
  • Perform receptionist duties, including answering phones and greeting / directing visitors.
  • Support duties related to accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Assist with preparation of financial statements, reports and invoices.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all financial data.
  • Perform basic office tasks like filing, data entry, and mail processing.
  • Computer Program and Excel worksheet data entry.
  • Order and maintain office supplies and other inventory.
  • Assist Accounting team with accounting reports and special projects.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to prioritize and multitask in a fluid, fast-paced environment.
Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience Four (4) years minimum related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money.


Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
