POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a highly responsible professional position in FDLE's Office of Information Technology Services (ITS). The Office of Information Technology Services provides a wide range of services to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Florida criminal justice agencies that use its information systems. This position is an entry level position in Open Systems Administration.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Install, maintain and support Linux based servers in FDLE's 24x7x365 datacenter;
  • Support Redhat Jboss middleware products, such as EAP, AMQ and FUSE;
  • Install and supporting the Commvault Backup software;
  • Utilize automation software such as scripts or Ansible playbooks;
  • Provide after hours on-call for Linux based server systems; and
  • Create and update applicable documentation for new and existing Linux based systems.

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and four years of experience in computer systems analysis, systems administration or computer programming; or
  • Any combination of education or experience, as described above, for a total of four years.
  • Completion of a 720-classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or community college in the area of data processing* can substitute for one year of the required education or experience.
  • Completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing* can substitute for one year of the required computer systems analysis/administration or computer programming education or experience.

Note: 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of course work from an accredited college or university is equivalent to one year of experience.

  • Computer operations and data entry excluded in data processing experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge of Red Hat Linux Operating Systems;
  • Knowledge of Linux security and file permissions;
  • Ability to support Java, JBoss Web applications;
  • Knowledge of Linux networking;
  • Knowledge of Virtualization technology;
  • Knowledge of backup methodologies, procedures and ITS policies regarding the management of backups;
  • Knowledge of basic scripting languages and concepts;
  • Understanding of Application development and integration methods;
  • Ability to prepare program specifications and requirements;
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex programs and work flows;
  • Ability to interpret technical information relating to network operating systems and other areas of data processing;
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively;
  • Ability to follow established ITS policies and procedures; and
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, especially fellow OSA staff.

BASE SALARY:

  • $47,250.00

BACKGROUND:

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. The elements of a background include: financial credit check, criminal history of applicant and applicant's immediate family or roommates, personal references, employment and education verifications (which includes official transcript(s)), drug screen and fingerprinting. This information will be utilized to make the final hiring decision.

NOTES:

Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
