Job Overview
The Renewable Operations Control Center (ROCC) Operator is part of the Miller Bros Solar O&M department. A ROCC Operator is responsible for monitoring and operating photovoltaic solar powerplants and battery energy storage systems to maximize safety and productivity.
Responsibilities:
- MONITOR performance and alarms for photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems using computer systems and DAS platforms.
- OPERATE electrical systems remotely under the direction of site personnel during normal operations and independently during emergency operations.
- COMMUNICATE issues and abnormalities to appropriate personnel for investigation and remediation. This involves internal company employees as well as externally to customers and regulators.
- WORK in 8-10 hour shifts at staffed operations center.
- DOCUMENT all site operations and required metrics to aid in troubleshooting and regulatory compliance.
- LEARN new technologies, regulations, and operations in the ever-changing renewable energy industry.
Required Skills:
- Ability to communicate orally over the phone as well as in written electronic format
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office suite of tools including Word, Excel, and Teams. Microsoft Power BI a plus.
- Must be able to work days, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to interpret one-line electrical diagrams and analytical graphs.
- Must be comfortable working at a computer in an office setting for 8-10 hours at a time.
- Must contain a basic electrical understanding to be able to learn more complex electrical systems. Familiarity with the below will be seen favorably: Ohm’s Law/AC and DC electricity/Kirchoff’s Laws/Solar Panel Operation/Inverter Operation/Power Transformer Operation/Transmission Basics
- If you do not possess electrical fundamentals, proven aptitude in mechanical fluid systems can prove the ability to learn electrical fundamentals.
- Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
Experience:
Minimum:
- 4+ years experience in operations of electrical systems or fluid mechanical systems;
- Ability to pass a background and drug test
Preferred:
- Power generation experience or 2/4 year engineering or technical degree
- Low voltage electrical in lieu of power generation (e.g. residential electrician, electronics technician, etc.)
- Familiarity with SCADA systems
- Solar PV remote operations or technician experience
- Prior experience working with NERC compliance and NERC registered facilities
Additional Details:
- This job is a day shift position with every other weekend requiring 4 hours on Saturday and Sunday.
- This job is not a physical labor job and will be spent working on computers and phone systems in an office setting.
- The initial training period for this job is an ideal 4 weeks of M-F 9-5 schedule prior to performing job tasks independently.
