Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position will serve on the St Lucie County School Based Dental Sealant Program where hygienists travel to the schools and childcare centers with portable dental equipment and provide preventive dental services to children including oral health assessments, oral hygiene instructions, sealants, and fluoride. This position may assist at the dental clinic sites as needed.

This is a highly responsible, professional position that requires effective communication with school principals and staff, oral health education with children, organization of paperwork for data entry, entering clinical services into Dental software (Dentrix) and HMS, knowledge of portable dental equipment, and ability to track inventory. This position requires local travel and varying work schedule in coordination with the schools and the school nurses.

This is work promoting, maintaining, and improving individual oral health by providing preventive dental services, oral health education, referral to a dental home and case management to children in the schools and childcare centers in St Lucie County. This position will also require the following.

  • Working as a team and utilizing expertise as a dental hygienist providing preventive dental services, preparing, and teaching dental presentations in schools.

  • Implementing and completing SEALS data entry, provide summary of services for FLOSS survey.

  • Case management of children with urgent needs in the school-based sealant program and increase referrals to dental homes for children in need of services.

  • Assisting with preparing orders and inventory control for School Based Sealant Program.

  • Maintaining records and entering clinical services into Dentrix and HMS.

  • Traveling to schools and childcare centers within the County

  • Ability to work in Health Department Dental Clinics as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of dental hygiene and public health principles, practices, and techniques.

  • Ability to work with clients and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Ability to plan and evaluate services provided.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate work assignments.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to teach and demonstrate preventative health care and basic health care.

  • Knowledge of community resources.

  • Skill in computer software application.

Qualifications:

Minimum :

  • Licensed as a Dental Hygienist, as required in Chapter 466 Florida Statutes

  • Florida Drivers’ License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment

  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

    Preferred:

  • Bilingual

  • Experience working with children

  • Experience working with Florida Medicaid programs.
