Summary

The University of Michigan Arts Initiative seeks to illuminate and expand human connections, inspire collaborative creativity, and build a more just and equitable world through the arts. The Arts Initiative seeks a Graphic Designer and Communications Assistant to design promotional materials and assist with support of Arts Initiative Communications. Primary responsibilities include developing collateral for programs and events; coordinating implementation of branding, assisting with development of newsletter and promotion; and supporting social media efforts. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects with varying timelines with acute attention to detail, and build high-quality relationships with staff, artists, donors, and students. The Graphic Designer and Communications Assistant reports to the Associate Managing Director of the Arts Initiative. This position is based in Ann Arbor, MI and will be hybrid in nature working both remotely and on site. This position is a three-year term with possibility for extension.

Responsibilities*

Project and Admin Coordinator has the following duties and responsibilities:

Marketing and Communications Support (70%):

  • Support Arts Initiative staff with marketing for programs and events
  • Work with stakeholders - students, faculty, and representatives from other departments for planning and collaboration
  • Work with Arts Initiative staff in scheduling social media and PR needs, including outreach to partner units, promotion, and communication with speakers and partners
  • Support and coordinate with Arts Initiative Staff and communications to send out emails, newsletters, and invitations for events
  • Maintain the Arts Initiative website and provide technical assistance or trouble-shooting for staff who have edit access
  • Attend events and represent the Arts Initiative on campus and in the public to cover events in communication collateral
  • Contribute to a culture of professionalism, high proficiency, empathy, and humanism. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and as necessary to achieve the objectives of the initiative.

Administration (30%):

  • Manage and support upkeep of Mailchimp and list segmentation
  • Organize visual assets including photos in collaboration with Project/Admin Coordinator and Arts Communication Strategist
  • Assist with compilation of Mailchimp usage reports
  • Check and respond to Arts Initiative email account
  • Create and manage excel spreadsheets and contact lists in Mailchimp
  • Assist with preparation of presentations and information about the Arts Initiative

Required Qualifications*

The successful candidate will have a background in the arts and/or in some combination of production/project management, academic programming, arts programming, event planning, administrative support.

  • Candidates must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, including the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy, and the ability to maintain confidentiality in matters of a sensitive or confidential nature. Must have the ability to think clearly and speak effectively in difficult situations.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and problem solve creatively.
  • A team player with a sense of humor
  • Strong computer fluency with Google Suite, Adobe Suite, and task management software
  • Social media fluency

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree and some administration experience
  • Visual document creation and layout, such as the Adobe Creative Suite

Salary This is a non-exempt, 60% position at the University of Michigan.
