Welcome to the City of Box Elder, also known as the "Gateway to the Black Hills." Our city is growing, and we are currently hiring for a Roads Operator to join our talented team of operators in the Public Works department. This individual would become part of a dynamic, engaging team that values the contributions made by its employees and encourages professional development.

This position will be responsible for performing technical duties related to the operations, maintenance, and repair of the City's roadway system and stormwater infrastructure.

This is a full-time and benefitted position located in the City of Box Elder. The schedule is typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with an option for a four day 10-hour shift schedule and three days off depending on the season.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Performs maintenance of city streets and right-of-way.
• Constructs drainage structures; may assist in laying underground piping and sewer systems; installs shoring; serves as the flagger on a crew.
• Performs maintenance of gravel roads.
• Performs pavement maintenance such as asphalt pothole repair, concrete curb/gutters, and sidewalk repairs.
• Performs loading and unloading of equipment and materials on and off trailers safely.
• Operates equipment consistent with safety policies as well as any rules and regulations required by state and federal safety standards.
• Services and performs necessary adjustments or repairs to equipment; maintains equipment clean and in good working condition; reports the need for repairs to the supervisor or shop immediately.
• Operates snowplows and other equipment to assist in the removal of snow and ice from city streets.
• Observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites from traffic hazards as necessary.
• Promotes and supports the overall mission of the City by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma/GED; AND two (2) years of construction and maintenance operations experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• South Dakota Class B CDL (Commercial Driver's License).
