Job Description - Associate Director of Finance and Grant Administration
Position Overview: Associate Director of Finance and Grants Administration The Finance Team at our organization is seeking an Associate Director of Finance and Grants Administration. Reporting to the Executive Director for Finance, Administration, and Information Technology (EDFAI), this pivotal role involves overseeing funding for our center. We are looking for a self-directed individual who excels in collaboration with Principal Investigators (PIs), our finance team, Harvard departments, and external partners. Operating within a dynamic environment, this role directly manages pre- and post-award activities for substantial NIH-funded cooperative agreements, with budgets exceeding $38M annually. Key Responsibilities: Lead a team of grant managers and financial coordinators, providing direction, training, and fostering a supportive work environment. Manage pre-award processes including proposal submission and award validation, and post-award processes such as financial analysis and reporting. Ensure compliance with grant sponsor and university policies, serving as the primary source of NIH-related information for our center. Review and approve expenditures to ensure accuracy and compliance with funding requirements. Oversee the IT Cost Center to manage allowable costs effectively. Additional Duties: Develop and implement procedures that align with university-wide policies and initiatives. Provide guidance and training on sponsored research management and compliance. Interpret complex funding regulations and guidelines. Lead audits of sponsored accounts to ensure adherence to regulations. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree preferred. Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience, with expertise in sponsored research regulations. Prior supervisory experience and strong leadership skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills. Experience with NIH-funded cooperative agreements and familiarity with ASSIST platform preferred. Additional Skills: Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and communication skills.
